Sooooo....I had my consultation the other day and I guess I'll start with the good news!

Insurance covers 100%

I have no co-mobilities and other than being overweight, I'm perfectly healthy.

So the not-so-great news

6 month dr. supervised weight program

(which she mainly told me is I go to the dr. once a month and they weigh me, so pretty easy)

Since I have no co-mobilities I have to go & get records from my dr.'s for the past 3 years.

(Which will be time consuming because I don't even have a primary physician, I barely go to the dr., only when I'm sick).

Could take 7-8 months until I get a surgery date.

So all in all it was fine. I still can't fully walk after my ankle surgery in May so I already plan to get more physical once I can walk again (starting with walking which is my, my dr's & my physical therapists goal right now) so I'll be tracking my exercise to show I'm not just doing nothing.

But here's what I'm worried about. She said that 45% of her patients that are banded, fail. 45%!!!!!!!! She did say it was because they eat around the band, soft/mushy foods like mashed potatoes, ice cream, milk shakes and things like that instead of getting in meats (protein) and veggies. Luckily I already read some on here about what you're suppose to do to eat "right" once banded (like eating your Protein first). But that number is scary!! I just keep telling myself that I'm the one ready for the entire lifestyle change. For right now I'll be happy with just being able to walk without excruciating pain!

hi blondelou.. i know it sounds stupid..but think about how long you've walking around with the extra weight. I felt like you a couple weeks a go. fortunately my ins is a tad bit more linient than yours it sounds. i also dont have a pcp but do go when im sick..about every 3 yrs. so i do have proof that for the last 5 i have been ow. i 'm not on any meds..so i was thinking today when i went to my consultation with my sx that it would be atleast 6 months before i could get my approval for sx. But lucky to say that all i need is my psych eval and my sx date is already set for 8/18!!

i was planning on waiting and going thru with whatever the sx asked me to do. That is pretty scary what she told you. And i pray to god that i can be parrt of the 55%!! i would hate to fail..once again!!

hand in there..and hope to hear that your going to stick with some sort of weight loss!

My insurance company said weight supervised 6 months by my doctor....OR 3 months by a nutritionist. You might want to check into that so you can cut some time off. I have been seeing my nutritionist about 3-4 months pre op and I still continue to see her. Matter of fact I have an apt tomorrow. Good Luck!

Scott

Here is a good tip ! Since it school time Double pocket folders should be cheap, so buy yourself one.

Every time you go to a Dr. Tell them to give you a print out of your visit, and it must have your weight on this. (IF YOU MISS, YOU START COUNTING FROM MONTH 1 AGAIN) remember that ! Keep all those copies, and what ever else you have to get. If your weighed,,, you want a print out !

Keep it in the file, and when it's time to hand it over to the Ins. person, It's all there.

You should also make copies for yourself, then you have a copy of everything.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
