HELP! 7th Fill - Have Restriction, but is it too much???

Recommended Posts

Had surgery on 12/2. Have not had any restriction from monthly fills! Finally, last Wednesday, after crying to my Dr over my 22 lb loss, he gave me a big fill! Now I'm worried that it's too much. I've been on liquids since then. I can't keep any solids down. I'm eating slowly, chewing excessively, on food such as cottage cheese and it still comes up! I've lost 8 lbs since last Wednesday so I'm pretty happy with the weight loss, but I feel terrible! To make matters worse, my Dr is out of town this week and I leave for a cruise on Thursday (8/4). Any suggestions to get through this will be greatly appreciated!!!

The best thing i can suggest is to see if his nurse practitioner can see you and take out maybe .1-.2 cc of liquid. my last fill i only had .5 put in but it was too much and i couldn't swallow my Water at the dr's office, so they pulled out .2cc and it was perfect. Tell them that its an emergency and they should be able to get you in.

Just spoke to his nurse. She is going to get me an appt with another dr in his practice, but she said that he'll take it all out & then I'll see my regular dr next week! I hate to start all over but I'm miserable so at least I'll be feeling better before my vacation! Thanks for the reply!

That is kind of crazy to take it all out.....Even .08 can make a difference or 1cc, but the all of it....I would refuse!

I wouldn't want it all taken out. And, my second fill I felt similar for a few days then it got better. I can eat most foods if I eat slow enough, take small bites and don't drink. I think the body has to adjust to these fills slowly. I was on liquids for like 3 days, but then it got better so I could eat. My second fill I finally felt like I understood proper restriction and how I was suppose to comply to the eating rules. It does work.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
