My band date is on August 12. I've been going through a roller coaster of emotions- a few days ago I was nervous as hell, and now I'm super excited.

I think at this point, you should read all the success stories you can find on this site. I kept on reading all of the negative stuff, and it was freaking me out. The more positive you stay, the better you will feel.

I'm sure in a day or two I will go back to feeling nervous. Even though we haven't been banded yet, this is all a process to get us mentally ready to face the surgery. It's completely human to feel nervous about people cutting into you!

I had my surgery last Tuesday and I was super excited up until a couple of days before the surgery then my nerves kicked in. When that happened... I would go to the homepage of obesityhelp.com and flip through all the before and after pics. Sometimes I'd go through 5-10 sets of pictures just looking at all the weight people have lossed with WLS. THAT brought me back down to earth and set my head on right. I have wanted this for years. "I'm going to be one of those after pics" - I would think to myself and that always made me feel less anxious about the surgery.

Now that I am on the other side of LBS... I'm SO glad all that waiting is over. I did it... and BOY is this side looking bright. B)

I was banded on 6/17/11 and trust me we ALL feel the same way. I was so extremely nervous, it was ridiculous! At one point I wasn't even sure if I was making the best decision. But I have lost 27lbs since and I am loving it! :D You will too. I don't think you would have come this far if you were not making the best choice for you. So be happy and good luck! Keep me posted.

What you are going through is completely normal!!! I was banded 4/5/2011 and was extremely nervous. In fact, I had a major anxiety attack right before surgery. I would do it again though........in a heartbeat!!!

I also went through that and it is completely normal. I was banded 4/4/11 and have now lost 87 pounds! I am so glad I did it and would not change a thing. You can and will get through it As for the negative things you read, everyone is different and everyone works there tool different. If you are willing to put in the work (work outs) and eat right you will succeed. cool.gif

Are you working out? Congrats on your weight loss! Your numbers are fantastic. I only hope to be as down as much as you when I am as far along. :)

I'm coming up on my two-year bandiversary and I still remember the roller coaster of emotions leading up to surgery. From day to day I was either going through with it or cancelling, I couldn't make up my mind. The closer surgery got, the more of an emotional mess I became. I laughed, I cried, I watched documentaries of people who had lost weight without surgery (by the way, that was NOT a good idea!), and I prayed A LOT. Of course, the final decision was to go through with it and I've never looked back! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. The payoff has been huge, and my quality of life is astronomically better than it was two years ago! I think everybody goes through the emotional roller coaster leading up to lap band surgery (or any surgery for that matter). It is perfectly normal. Like everyone else has said, keep reading success stories and keep yourself around people who support and understand your decision and will be a good motivator for you. Visiting these boards and reading positive postings is also a good thing to do. You are going to do GREAT and your life is going to be WONDERFUL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
