Reflux, unfilled, weight gain

Recommended Posts

Any feedback will be appreciated. In March I was diagnoised with severe acid reflux and had all my fill taken out. In May I had breast reduction surgery and am loving that. But since March, I have put back on 25 pounds. I am ashamed of myself and am kicking my butt over it. I am working on getting back to that food diet and consumption of food. My biggest concern is going back to get fillled again. I know I've done wrong, but I need to get back on the horse, so to speak. Any of you out there ever backtracked like this? Thanks....

I had severe reflux too. Up and down all night and unable to eat. The Dr took out my fill too and I am gaining weight. It is awful I am hungry all the time. I ge a fill in September. This just reinforces the fact having the band does make a positive difference. I am trying not to beat myself up to much but it is hard.

Wow, it is good to hear that I am not the only one who feels like I should be doing better. I have gained, lost, and gained and lost but the best thing about the band is the flexibility. Hang in there, you will do great after the fill because you have seen both sides now.

Thank you both. I go back Sept 2 and start with my fills again. I've also started a Water aerobics class, 5 days a week. Your responses are welcomed and appreciated. I talked to the doctors nurse a few weeks back and she said that I wasnt' the first person and I wont be the last. I've been trying to eat like I have the band on, and remembering the hungry pains. But I'm ignoring them, as much as possible, because I want this to work.

My band was unfilled over a year ago due to sever reflux (I would actually wake up puking on my pillow) and I'm going to be refilled Oct 21st and I'm TERRIFIED. I had my surgery in 2005, lost 100 lbs and I've gained back 68 lbs now. I'm scared to get the fill and have it result the same way but I'm also scared to NOT get the fill and keep gaining :( I know it's my fault, I should still be eating as if I have the band full but the hunger is soooo overwhelming. Glad to hear I'm not the only one and I would love to hear how your fills go...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
