5th day after lap band surgery

Recommended Posts

Mornings are still the hardest for me. I think it's because I have been laying flat all night and all that gas gets trapped then starts moving as soon as I get up. I am down to taking narcotic pain med at night and have liquid tylenol and motrin during the day and gas-x strips for the gas pain that also travels to my left shoulder. I am eating better now too. I had some vegetable Soup from Frisch's that was blended up. It was such a nice change from the sodium ridden broth that I have had. I am still eating the sugar free popsicles since they are an easier way to get more Fluid in. Finally got thru the pain of having a bowel movement. I have been taking stool softeners every day. I couldn't imagine how bad it would have been without them, LOL. Still having soreness, pain and burning at the incision for the port site. All of the other incisions feel pretty good. I also had a hernia repair so I think that some of the continued pain is from that also. I walked around the grocery store today but I think I over did it because I started breaking out in a sweat and felt real weak so I'm taking it easy the rest of the day. There are moments when I think, "OMG what did I do?" then there are moments when I am so happy and excited thinking, "OMG, I can't believe I finally did this". I'm so glad that I found this forum and I have found such inspiration reading everyone else's stories. Best Wishes to all:)

I am on Day 4. Also feeling pretty good and very positive that I've had this done. I luckily have not had too much trouble with gas. My surgeon had me taking four 10-minute walks per day right from day 1, and i think that helps a lot. I am able to eat yogurt (no fruit in it), Soup and pudding. Just a few more days till mushies - yea! By the way, my surgeon said that pain in the left shoulder has noting to do with gas, though that's what many people attribute it to. He said it may come and go for as long as a few months but will eventually pass. The shoulder pain has been much worse than the incisions pain for me. Anyway - we did the right thing and now we are on the road to much improved health!!

The more you walk the better you feel! I am 17 days post surgery and I feel great! I know exactly what you are talking about with the pain in your left shoulder, I thought I was dying! It will go away soon, but walk, walk, walk!! Also, butternut squash soup is yummy, there are a few brands that are low enough in sugar and fat for you to eat! Much better than the broth. You are only days behind me, so you should start feeling better very soon!! Make sure you drink lots of water!! Be happy! You have taken a huge step to make your life better!!

U said that u take "motrin" ???? From my understanding that is not allowed anymore. You should check with your Dr about taking motrin. I was banded on July 29, and I REALLY understand what you mean about left shoulder pain. It just started a few hours ago. I am going to take my 5 min walk around the house and put my heating pad on my shoulder. Good Luck to you all!!

I didn't sleep flat for I don't know how long after my surgery. I slept in a reclined position with pillows behind me. I was really paranoid about sleeping on my stomach and doing something to the port. I got used to it and eventually tried sleeping on my side and then finally found I was okay on my stomach. I know it had to have been a few weeks before I felt comfortable laying on my stomach.

I am doing the same thing with the pills at night. I don't take anything during the day because I am just tolerating the pain ( I think I should take something). The port incision is bothersome. I noticed that I cant bend over because i really feel the pain in that area. I still have not taken a poop yet. I hope it doesn't hurt when I do. I lay on the side that is opposite of th port at night and this relieves the pain a tremendous amount at night. maybe you should try that ( along with a pain med). Anyway, YEAH US! WE DID IT!

I'm on day 4 post op and totally relate about the left shoulder pain. Have been sleeping in a reclined position mostly but trying to sleep on my side tonight. My incision areas are sore if I try to bend over but for the most part I hurt where my hiatal hernia was repaired. Very sore inside. And #2 finally happened for me yesterday. Huge relief. Lol. Can't wait til all the pain is gone and everything is healed. Take a deep breath. This too shall pass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
