What was your post op experience?

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is Tuesday and I'm starting to get pretty nervous. I guess im just nervous about the whole "unknown" thing. I've never had surgery before so I have no idea what post-op life is like. I'm nervous about the pain... What was your experience like? Also, I'm beginning to get nervous about the lifestyle Change. I am more than ready for this.. I'm just nervous. What has been your most difficult adjustment? And what have been your greatest rewards?

Ah! I wish Tuesday would just get here so I can stop freaking out.

My experience with the surgery was really good. I am lucky enough to react really well to anastesia and have a pretty high pain tolerance. I took the percecet I was given for a couple days, then I was fine. It really was a piece of cake for me, but everyone's experience is different. I have 2 best things, one is getting off my meds for high blood pressure, high cholesteral and diebetes. The other was fitting into smaller clothes, I had a great time shopping when I lost all the weight and needed a brand new wardrobe. Good luck, you'll do great!

I had absolutely no problems. It was a great experience. In fact, I never took the pain medicine OR had any gas pains. I just walked as much as I could in case they thought they were going to appear! One little thing was my throat was a little sore from being intibated (or however you spell that), but that was about all! Good luck with everything!

I was banded this past Friday the 29h and it has been far easier than I expected. I've been up walking a lot. I have a shiatsu chair massager pad that I've used to take my mind off the gas pain (I checked with my doctor and they said it was ok to use). I also have a heating pad on my tummy--but it really hasn't hurt...just soreness like I've done a lot of sit-ups. I've had no probably getting fluids down so I drink Water, broth and Protein Shakes. I'd say for two days out--it's going well.

I was really nervous too ( prior to surgery) and thats to be expected. Just glad I didn't back out at the last minute. I can do this and I will make myself healthier thru this experience. I can't think of anything better than that!

Let us know how you're doing after surgery. Good luck!

I had a very good experience. I did not have gas pains and only took liquid Tylenol. My biggest issue really was having to get up every 15 minutes the night I was in the hospital to go to the bathroom because of the IV fluids. Though on the upside I did not have the high liquid weight gain some get the day after surgery. In addition to doing short walks the first couple days I was back at the gym on day four on the treadmill.

No post op problems here either. I think it is because I have had 3 c-sections so this was a walk in the park. I did have a bit of Constipation. I now take a stool softener daily. Also, a heating pad for gas saved me. Nothing else worked. My biggest accomplishment is that my ticker goes down continually. I credit tracking everything that goes in my mouth. It kept me accountable before I had any restriction. Good luck!

My post-op was also pretty easy. I was sore at the site of the port incision, but other than that I had no other pain. I was difficult for me to sleep on my side and had to pretty much sleep on my back which is not my favorite. I didnt take any pain medication because all they gave me was liquid vicodin which doesn't work on me. My throat was really sore due to the tube down my throat, but that resolved by the second day. I slept a lot and just took it easy. The whole experience was much easier than I expected.

I hope your surgery goes well on Tuesday! Keep us updated.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
