How Do the Guys Do It?????

Recommended Posts

I had the opportunity to have the surgery done so I went for it. I am glad I did it. My goal weight is 200 lbs. The last time I weight 200 lbs was back in 1980 when I was in the army. As of today I weight 283.2 lbs. from 339 lbs in sept. In Jan 2005 I weighted 362 lbs. I went on the Atkins diet and got down to 340 lbs. I would like to move to Nevada or Arizona. I feel being overweight most employers dont want to hire someone @ 300 lbs.. Well I hope to reach part of my weight goal by December.

I would recommend the surgery to anyone.

I suppose a real man makes decisons based on what's best for them and their family...and the rest let society decide for them.

Jon

Oh Yeah! Like that one!

Hey, Mikey, that was a great post, too. I must have some "man traits" because I totally relate to your SuperPowers. I just don't have a secret decoder ring, and I ain't "brokebacked"...what's a woman to do?!!! Thanks for putting some of my feelings into words. Well-written!

The reason I did it was twofold:

1) I had a lot of co-morbidities, and at 46, I wanted to get my health in control so I could stick around to help out my wife and children, and maybe even be there to see them have children.

2) My wife is such a wonderful woman. I felt that she deserved a more handsome, healthier, sexier man, and that I could do better for her.

She never asked me to do it, and was terribly fearful of my doing it. I am so glad I did.

Taking into the account the surgical risks, I would recommend it wholly to any man that needs to lose around 100 pounds, or has co-morbidities. It certainly has improved my quality of life in ways I had never thought possible.

I've posted a few threads now, and I think I can be honest without people judging me...

If you want a guy to lose weight, bring sex into the equation... The other day I had sex for the first time in several months. I'm about 40 pounds lighter than the last time I had sex, and it was much more enjoyable for both me and her.

Just tell your husband that sex will be either significantly improved, or at the very least, more frequent if he loses so serious weight - He'll be down the WLS clinic before you know it.

Piano Man....THAT'S IT!!! Shoot, I could have skipped the band if I could earned romantic "prizes" every....5 pounds (2 pounds?!).

you know....maybe sex could be a prize for everything. Something tells me a lot more would be accomplished in the world!

Keep smiling, y'all!

Jon

But as much as "you get more nooky if you lose weight" might incite a man, it's a heck of a bummer for the girl/guy on the other end! That would never work in our house. "Oh, you didn't lose weight? That's OK, it's the thought that counts!" And we'd end up with the scenario of - why buy the cow if I can get the milk for free. :)

Force can be the dark side. Resentment, Anger, Fear you must avoid.

For me?

1. No bastards cutting into me with a knife damnit, and I'm certainly not paying for the privilige.

2. I can handle it on my own, thank YOU very much.

3. I'll eat what I want, when I want. I'm grown up and you can't make me (stamp foot in petulant six year old way).

The decision when, and how to lose weight, has to be taken by an individual. I've tried dieting because the doc has told me to, I've tried dieting because family and friends told me to. I more or less ended up saying "whatever, this just isn't worth it".

Now? I see the light at the end of the tunnel and if I don't change my life, I will get to the end of the tunnel really damn soon.

Sad to say but most guys need a 'short sharp shock'. I finally figured out after being miserable all the time after I ate that things had to change. The wife got the lap band, and I decided to do it under my own steam.

Control has to play a part as well. I see the band (or any WLS) as a last ditch, Holy Crap! HELP situation. I would have to admit total defeat to get the band. As a man, I refuse to admit defeat.

I wish I could say there's easy advice, but we are stubborn creatures. Every man will have his breaking point. I can only imagine how hard it would be for a chef to not eat his own wares.

Hope things work out.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
