Starting to feel a lot better today. I was even able to get up and take a shower. The gas pains are worst in the morning, probably from laying down all night and then the shoulder pain hurts in the evening. My appetite is better today and so far I have only taken liquid tylenol for the pain. I have found that walking helps but it also wears me out. Still having a problem with the Protein Shakes. They are tasting so sweet to me that I can't stand them. I haven't had any problem with swallowing and keeping fluids down as long as I take small sips. I am so dreading having a bowel movement too, LOL. I know that's going to be rough, LOL. How are the other Day 4 Post-Ops doing? Would love to hear from you:)

I had my surgery on 7/28. I've been having some bad nausea this morning, just a real acidic feeling down there, like something wanting to come up, but I know I need to resist that. Okay, that's perhaps too much information laugh.gif I feel more sensitivity from the incisions, I'm still taking the painkiller the doc prescribed for me, I had a hiatal hyernia taken care of at the same time. I have not had the pain in the shoulders that others describe, but I've had a bloated gas feeling. I've been walking alot though. I have no problems drinking Muscle Milk light, Jello, broth, and Propel. I'm a little reluctant to take a shower and remove the bandages, but I think today I better, starting to feel funky, and I guess they've had time to heal.

Best wishes to all :)

I also feel better today then I have so far. I notice I feel worse when I wake up in the morning. My throat has been really raw and my mouth stays so dry. It seems when i try and eat anything I have the worst taste in my mouth.. like my taste buds are asleep lol I am still not able to get the Protein drinks down.. I actually havent felt hungry at all. I have been trying to walk during the day. I havent had a bowel movement. I was debating on taking a laxitive or waiting another day or 2.

I am glad you are starting to feel better Mason!

Hello Mason,

I had my op on Mon July 25th . The day after the op I was to drink 6 table spoons of Water in 15 mins, I could only drink 2 tea spoons all day, I was able to go home. Later when home I slept still not drinking more then 22 spoons of Water. Each time I would try I would burp I guess from the gas. I have only used 3 pain kills since Wednesday not bad. Had my first Gas X today. Let me tell you the first bowel movement you have will make you feel better. The first bowel movement might look like stomach bile as mine did (kind of freaked me out).

What ever you do try not to push. As for Protein drinks could do them before the op but not now as they make me want to toss my Cookies...lol.

Best of luck to you.

Mary

Hi Ukgrad89,

Please do not pull the bandages if they are the strips covering the stitches let them fall off by them self that is what my Dr told me. Letting them fall off by then self will let the skin heal,

Stay well.

Mary

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
