Needing Restriction Already?!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery July 6th, about 23 days ago. I started eating regular foods (as long as it doesn't give me problems, which thankfully hasn't happened yet) on thursday. I have been within the limits of the diet I've been given but I'm finding myself getting hungry before I should. I feel like I could eat like I used to pre-band if I wanted (which I won't!) I have an appointment with my surgeon on Aug. 14 and this is the day that I can get a fill. Am I the lone bandee that is already needing a fill? I lost 1.8lbs this past week. Should I be losing more?

I was banded June 20th. I've lost 30lbs since then. I DESPERATELY need a fill, because I'm super hungry all the time. This is dieting. I want a fill so I won't FEEL hungry so soon after I eat. So, you are totally not alone. I think you are normal, and loosing normally! Good luck on your fill.

Ok, I've been banded going on 3 yrs this December 2011. Just an FYI, because I thought the same thing, that they put the saline in at the time of surgery, but they don't, so you need to be careful eating too much before your first fill because that is when the restriction will happen and not before the first fill. Your band is empty, til your first fill which is why you are hungry. Everytime after that, if you get hungry even 2 weeks after your fill, go get another one because I didn't know this and learned the hard way and ended up gaining weight back, thinking I could eat. Play it smart and wait til you get the fill, then you'll see a difference in your hunger. Hope that helps :D

seriously i think u guys( recently banded) need to stop worrying about restriction, u have not even healed yet and you are worried about restriction. I may sound rude, but really worrying about healing. the band isnt going anywhere, its a journey not a race.

im 4 months out and still learning my new body signals, i really do not know how at 23 days after you can even think about anything like restriction, i think u need to talk to ur Dr, im sure they would tell you the same thing

Once I get a fill I know it'll take some getting used to. I was hoping I was one of the lucky ones that didn't need any saline in my band, guess not! haha thanks for your advice :)

I'm assuming you didn't mean to sound so abrupt, but yes I am focusing on my healing. I just couldn't help but notice the hunger. I am still getting used to my band and all the changes, and that's why I posted this... to see how other recently banded people are feeling.

I woke up from surgery needing a fill!!! I was hungry from day one, and I believe that I had some fill in my band at surgery.

My surgeon said he didn't care if I lost weight during "bandster hell" before my first fill. If I did it was just a bonus. Plus I did a 10 day cruise right before I saw him for my fill. I got back from my trip on Sunday or Monday and saw him on Tuesday or something like that.

It is frustrating because we want to lose the weight soooo bad and soooo quickly. We go through the surgery, and all the pain and hoops to get it. It is pretty anticlimactic when we get all healed up and realize we are just as hungry and can eat as much as before we had the surgery. Then we wait for 6 weeks to get a fill, and for some us the first fill does nothing. Crud! Then 2 weeks to a month goes by, another fill. Still not much help! Sheesh. Finally 3rd fill does it! Yeah. Well, now you are maybe a year into this whole journey from when you went to the seminar. Maybe longer if you went to more than one or had some insurance glitches.

For some the first fill will help, for others it is the sixth. We never know. For me, I think it was the second. I am 3.5 years out, so it's getting kind of fuzzy now.

But this is a marathon, not a sprint. Patience is key.

I know how you "hungry" people feel! I'm ten days post-op and let me tell you, the first 3 days I was in hell!..lol.. Hunger pangs were the worst-tear-inducing, but you can't "eat" at that time, so..But what saved me was strained cream Soup. Period. It made me feel human again, and SO less deprived. I have a few spoonfuls, a few sips of Water and I'm good. I SERIOUSLY wanted this band OUT of me, I swear! Also, regarding restriction so you wont feel hungry, I truly don't think it's even possible to NEVER feel hunger again. You will, you just have to make the right choices.(I know, more "diet" talk..lol..) but it's true. I have the evilest, most opinionated, self-absorbed nutritionist on the planet, but I DID learn quite a bit with her (and at 40 bucks a pop, I'd better...) When I was out and about, and got hungry, I grabbed a piece of chicken from somewhere, or drank my MML-and did NOT grab a donut. The muscle milk REALLY saved my sanity, and took my sweet craving away-which I NEVER though could happen. Protein truly and totally rocks!

It took me 5 months to get some restriction and another month to get to the green zone. Buy a good digital scale measure your Protein. Note I'm not saying it will be easy.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
