Today is my 3rd day post op. I am having more pain today than I have had up to this point. Plus the gas and burping has started today too. I have been up walking around as much as I can tolerate and that has helped to relieve some of the pressure. I am still having a hard time getting all of my fluids in and the Protein Shakes are too thick for me right now. I have gained back 4lbs. but I'm sure that's from the swelling and all of the IV fluids from day of surgery. I've been taking a little bit of pain meds every 4 hours to keep the pain from escalating. A few times I have taken too big of sips of Water and I can feel pressure in my upper chest but it eventually goes away. Hope that all of the other 3day post ops are doing well.

Mix the shakes with more Water. You should be getting them down. I have a feeling your surgeon may have put some Fluid in your band durih surgery. If this continues, call them and ask. If there is fluid in there, have it removed. Most people here have felt immediate relief after that.

Hang in there!

My 3rd day post op is when I really starting feeling worse than better. I had really bad gas, but kept Gas x near by and took it as much as the package said I could. My biggest problem was nausea, which lasted for almost 2-weeks. Best of Luck to you!

I am also in my 3rd day and the gas is something else, but seems to be fadding. I was told just Clear Liquids for 3 weeks, no protien shakes now. I am getting protien from skim milk. It is stated that we should get plenty of rest, and I nap 2 to 3 times a day. It is getting better. I take my pain liquid twice a day. Good luck.

Thank you all for the helpful hints:)

I'm 5 days post op. I had to have hiatal hernia repair also and the gas is what was just horrible afterward. Luckily my husband did some research for me and found Gas X strips. Lay them on your tongue and the gas escapes. Omg, that helped me so much. I've only had to use 1 and since then it's been coming up on it's own. Here's my problem. Everything I can have is what I could have 5 days prior to be being banded. liquids and Protien shakes. It's like my taste buds have all changed because everything now tastes nasty to me me with the exception of Water. My shakes tastes so nasty I want to gag so I haven't been taking them and have basically been living on Water. Even sugar free popcicles are so sweet I can hardly stand them. Anyone go through this or have any suggestions? I do have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow morning.

I am right there with you about the taste of things. My Protein shakes are now way too sweet, same with the Jello and pudding. None of these bothered me before the surgery though. I just gave my sister the Cookies n creme Protein powder because I never want to see that one again, LOL. I don't go back to doctor til Friday. Let me know what yours says. Thanks:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
