Try kickboxing!

Recommended Posts

If any of you should belong to a gym that offers kickboxing, try it! Not just tae bo, but real kickboxing, with gloves and heavy bags. Oh man, I went today and it was SO much fun! Didn't know if I'd make it through the class, but amazingly enough, I did. Good for releasing stress and aggression too.

If you've ever thought about trying it, DO IT! I had SO much fun.

You and I both weigh the same currently but at 48 years old, I don't think I have the balance or would even be able to lift my legs that high.

I'm so glad it worked for you though. Maybe after I've been exercising a while, I'll give it a try and let you know.

Continue on taking out all those aggressions!!

Alexis,

I saw kickboxing at my local sport center and was thinking about it but I was terrified it would be to hard on me. We are about the same weight so your post cheers me up a bit. ;-)

How good of shape (fitness-wise) do you feel you are in? You really did not find it too strenuous? Just how high do you actually have to kick? Were you very sore afterwards?

Carol, there was a 70 year old man who made it through the class without a problem, so I don't want to hear age excuses! :)

Kiera, I'm not in too bad of shape fitness-wise. I'm better than I was when I weighed 350, but not nearly as good as I could be. But, walking on the treadmill at 3.5mph with hills barely gets my heart rate up. Kickboxing definitely got my heart moving, but it wasn't overly strenuous. You kick as high as you want to. The higher you kick, the more strenuous, so, if you keep your kicks lower to start out with, you can build up to higher kicks.

It was great fun, and I'm definitely going back to the class tomorrow!

Tangerine!

OK, - I promise I'll give it a try eventually :) . I'm pround of the condition your body is in (and Jealous;) ). Three and a half miles per hour on an incline and it doesn't get your heart rate up!. My gosh, I walk around the block, am flushed and breathing hard. I guess this couch potato has a long way to go.

Keep up the great work and I will TRY to catch up with you. Checked last night and the gym I'm joining this week has kickboxing lessons. One step at a time, that is what I keep telling myself.

Carol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
