What's up with WLS people & collar bones?

Recommended Posts

So - take the question in the light it's meant, but seriously -- you guys have some of the biggest collar bones I've ever seen. And that's not just LB, that's DS, RNY, etc. They're way more protrusive than others I know who have lost the same weight through diet & exercise.

Between the neck & breastbone, everyone looks like they're about 15# below goal. :biggrin1:

Wheetsin, I've noticed the same thing! Although last night on 60 Minutes they had an opera singer who had bypass surgery, and I was thinking to myself "where are her collarbones"? I'm thinking she has a ways to go yet. :(

But seriously, maybe we just are farther along above the waist? I don't know, but my collar bones were among the first things to emerge from my shell. It's really weird, but I love it!

I was sitting here last nigt, chatting with justamom and dawg in the LBT chat room (why dont more of us use that? what fun!) and I reached up and laid my hand on my chest near my shoulder. There was this instant flash of thought thru my mind.. "What the hell is that??" It was my collarbone! I forgot I had one! LOL

I never made the connection between WLS and collar bones... ??? not sure IF there is one.

I think its just the way our bodies are made. I met a -102 pounder RNY patient, and didnt notice her collar bones. And she and I weigh about the same thing right now.

hmmmm.....

Having broken one of my collarbones twice (wierd thing-my twin sister has broken one of hers twice) I've always been kind of "aware of my collarbones) If memory serves, your collarbone is just about the most easily broken bones in your body--it snaps at something like 14 pounds of pressure.

My collar bones look absolutely huge now that I've lost some weight. I don't mind the way they look, but they do look huge--I almost fainted when I saw my X-Rays of my knees (prior to knee surgery) I kept thinking how did they get that cow to stand still for an xray of it's leg??

I noticed the same phenomenon and love my collarbone. My husband was rubbing my shoulders awhile ago and felt my shoulder blades. He didn't know that is what they were and just thought I was really tense and had built up a mass of tense muscles. I nearly fell down laughing at his shock to find they were actual and true bones! Collarbones yes! However, I've lost my butt at the beginning of this adventure. When I sit to take a bath, my tailbone is uncomfortable!

I was rubbing my shoulders, and was amazed to feel my shoulder bone! I mean, I was really aware that I had not felt it for such a long time....then I wondered if I was going to like that feeling, all over? After that little brain sputter, I realized I would get used to being the healthy me, even if I did have bones I've never felt! Great idea for a thread, Wheetsin!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
