I had my lapband with plication done outpatient yesterday. Iam soo sore and the gas pains just won't stop! I have had a lot of nausea and vomitting. I can't lay on my side and I am having a hard time sleeping on my back. Is this common?

I had my band put in six days ago and I am STILL having gas pains in my shoulder and tummy. Walking is the only thing that has helped me (gas-x doesn't work). I walked my driveway fifteen times and finally passed gas (raunchy but wonderful)!! You have to get up and move ASAP.

Try triple dosing with Mylicon, you can find it in the Baby section of any drugstore, you need to walk alot! When you finally blow the Busters you will feel good!

Best advice I can give you is get up and walk around. I know it is the LAST thing you want to do right now but it helps to get rid of that gas pain. It never went above my abdomen and I am grateful for that. Use Gas-X strips and keep ahead on your pain meds. I took my liquid lortab every 3-4 hrs and it really helped. Also, I slept in the recliner for the first 5 days/nights after surgery. It will get better, I promise, but I remember being in your shoes. I hope your recovery goes speedy!

I am worried about your vomiting. I had that too for 3 days after my surgery. Are you able to hold any Water down at all? I had so much swelling that nothing was going past the band so they had to drain the 4 Mls that were in there. THEN I was back in the hospital the next day for 2 1/2 days on IV fluids so I wouldn't dehydrate again. So please be sure to let your surgeon know that you are throwing up, especially if you are not able to hold down Water.

On the gas, yes, you have to walk walk walk and we aren't talking about around a track. Just when you get up to go to the restroom, do an extra lap or two, you will feel the difference. Are you able to keep your pain meds down? If not, let your Dr. know.

Sleeping.... the toughest is the first 2 nights. After that I was able to lay on my right side with a pillow right up against my stomach so I wouldn't roll or lean on my tummy. It will be a little or a lot of uncofortable getting in a laying position but once you are there, catch ur breath back and are relaxed OMG it feels so good!! Just try your best to lay down, I promise, you will get comfortable. I still sleep on my right side and I am almost a month post op. Laying on my back, uh uh it just feels weird and I can lay on my left side but it is way more conmfortable on my right .

I hope this helps.... please keep us posted on how you're doing.

Good luck

Thank you!

The nasea and vommiting are sporatic and I am usually able to keep down water and meds. However, I am probably not drinking as much as I should. I am on Phenegran for nausea and although it puts me to sleep it is helping with the nausea. I have tried to walk around the house pretty often and it does help with gas... but just when I think maybe I have gotten it all out I feel that bubble on my chest again PAIN! Overall I think I am doing rather well will try to start increasing my intake tomorrow and add Protein shakes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
