Hello there

My name is Sarah and I'm very new to this and I live in the U.K.

2 days ago I received a phone call from my cousin in Portland who told me about the Lap Band operation. He told me to ring Rick Hicks which I did who told me in great detail all about his experience before and after the lap band operation. I'm 39 have always been over weight have tried every diet going (with not much success) I want to know am I making the right decission by going for this Lap band surgery. I know if I don't do something real soon things are going to go bad for me knees and joints are starting to play me up. I want to see my children grow up and I really want to be able to do the things that I would like to do but can't because of this self made prison I have made of my body. Please give advice of good and bads or just what you think of Lap Band Surgery done by Dr Lopez thank you

Hi Sarah - I can only tell you from personal experience that having lap band surgery was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I have absolutely no regrets.

Hi Sarah,

I personally think it's wonderful so far! I would reccommend that you research your doctor very well. In addition to normal research, you can also do a search on this board using the search menu item and type in your doctor's name. You will be able to see all the comments made using the word you typed in the search box. I did this before I had my surgery done as well. Best wishes.

Kim

Hi Sarah! I'd only caution you to consider carefully where you have your surgery done. Well that, and don't make your mind up so fast as to whether to have it at all! Two days is a very short time. Read, ask questions, and see if there are any reasons why you personally wouldn't be a good banding candidate. If there are, try to address those reasons before going under the knife.

I don't know where you are, but if there's any way you can have local medical care it's VERY important to set that up. There is no question that easy access to medical attention is very important for banding success. Even the smoothest rides need adjustment from time to time, and almost all of us have had reason to contact the doctor from time to time outside of normal adjustments. So do try to get local care if you can.

Welcome to LBT!!

That's a question only you can answer. No one else can tell you whether or not it is the right decision for you.

welcome to LBT!

I don't think that anyone but you can make that decision, only you will be able to say if this is really the right choice for you. Just about eveyone on this board will tell you the same thing, that it was one of the best decisions we've personally made.

But once you decided if you are going to be banded, then one of the most very important things to figure out is your aftercare. The banding, the operation, is only the very first step in the process.

You wouldn't buy a car that runs on hydrogen if there is not hydrogen filling station near you, right? If you can't fill the car, it's pretty useless, well not getting fills in the band is pretty close to the same thing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
