MelindaH 3 Posted July 27, 2011 My A1C is a little high...my doctor just checked it yesterday. My surgery is scheduled for Aug 18th. Can a high A1C delay surgery? How high is high? I wouldn't think it would delay surgery....but do not hold me to it. One of the benefits of the surgery is that diabetes is often improved. All the best to you in your journey to good health. fourshepards 0 Posted July 27, 2011 To be honest, my doctor hasn't given me my results yet, but my blood sugars have been really high lately and I can't seem to get them down. My primary doctor has talked about starting me on insulin, but I'm a little hesitant to do it since I see my surgeon on Monday. I know things change when you get the Lap Band. Now I'm scared I won't be able to do it. How high is high? I wouldn't think it would delay surgery....but do not hold me to it. One of the benefits of the surgery is that diabetes is often improved. I have been banded a little over 2 years and I have not taken (or needed) Metformin for 2 years. YAY! I have more of a problem with my bgs being too low when I try to cut my carbs drastically. I love my band! Don't stress fourshepards it will likely work out just fine! ~fran
