How high is high? I wouldn't think it would delay surgery....but do not hold me to it. One of the benefits of the surgery is that diabetes is often improved.

All the best to you in your journey to good health.

To be honest, my doctor hasn't given me my results yet, but my blood sugars have been really high lately and I can't seem to get them down. My primary doctor has talked about starting me on insulin, but I'm a little hesitant to do it since I see my surgeon on Monday. I know things change when you get the Lap Band. Now I'm scared I won't be able to do it.

I am not a doctor so you do need to check with your surgeon however a HIGH A1C should nto delay surgery- I was /am a Diabetic with an AIC of 8.5 ON AVERAGE- As of 2 weeks prior to my surgery I have not taken any Diabeties meds at all~ I cant wait till Aug 1 when he drwas blood work again-- I am confident my A1C will be just right-- I heard lapbands do wonders for Diabetics and it sure does~

That's awesome!! I think I'm just getting nervous. It's been a long journey and now it's nearly in my reach! Good luck on Monday with your blood work!

You are so right about lapband doing wonders for (many) diabetics. I have been banded a little over 2 years and I have not taken (or needed) Metformin for 2 years. YAY! I have more of a problem with my bgs being too low when I try to cut my carbs drastically. I love my band!

Don't stress fourshepards it will likely work out just fine!
