Just Curioius about Excess Skin

Recommended Posts

I am only 26 years old. I get banded on Aug. 1st and I am so super excited. I was just wondering if ya'll who are close to my age, had any trouble with excess skin. My doctor seems to think that since I am young, along with exercise, I shouldn't have too much of a problem. Just curious.

I am 31 and was banded 6/8/11. I was concerned about the same thing and brought that up to my surgeon. He says that I am young and my skin should have very good elasticity so it shouldn't be a problem. I have started working out at the gym recently to help make sure I do not end up with a lot of excess skin as well.

I'm very curious about this too. I've been overweight my whole life, so I'm scared it's been stretched so long that it won't want to go back!! I was banded on 4/14/11 and have lost 63 lbs so far (started at 293, currently 230). My arms seem to be a problem already, especially when I fully extend them out, by my armpit. I workout 5-6 times per week and I make sure that I do my arm exercises to help.

Depends on how long you've been overweight, genetics, how overweight you are, etc. I'm 20, 19 when I was banded, have lost 115lbs and absolutely need PS. Am I horrible looking? Nope. But there's excess skin and with surgery I'll have completed my journey.

Weightlifting has helped but excess skin is excess skin.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
