Maybe because I am self pay and maybe because it’s just my personality but I never loose sight of the fact that a physician works for me. If I receive poor service in any industry I move on. I’m not going to pay someone to treat me like crap. If you’ve gone through insurance to have your lap band, here’s a news flash, you’re still paying the doctor. Your insurance premiums are paying the doctor. No one has the right to treat you like you’re an idiot or talk down to you. I am by no means telling anyone to doctor shop until they find someone that tells them what they want to hear, you’re just hurting yourself when you do that. However everybody deserves to be treated with respect, even if they are telling you something you don’t want to hear. There’s a right way and a wrong way to do things. Just because someone wears a white coat doesn’t make them a freaking genius or doctor of the year.

Well said! I totally agree with you.

Wish I'd have had more guts to stand up to the doctor that delivered my daughter. She was 8 weeks premature and there was a small chance she might have Downs Syndrome. When I let the dr. know that Downs Syndrome was a possibility he pretty much insinuated I could have had an abortion! WHAT!!!???? This is my child and I love her no matter what.

Thankfully I had great nurses and my daughter was born healthy and went home after just 2 weeks in the special care nursery! And I never had to see that jerk of a dr. again.

I couldn't agree with you more.

The only way to get great healthcare is to work with your providers (doctors, nurses, therapists...) That's damn hard to do if someone is treating you poorly. Healthcare is a collaborative effort, if you need to go to a few doctors until you find the one who listens to you and who you trust, so be it. I've been fortunate enough to find a primary doc who I really respect and she respects my opinion! When I need a new specialist for something, I always ask her opinion. Sometimes I end up going a little out of my way or to a new facility, but she hasn't steered me wrong yet.

The good docs are out there...Keep looking, if you haven't found one yet.

Cindy

I know what you mean. I had a op about 23 years ago in Chicago I had a great Dr. But one of his nurses was so rude to me as I was having my op under general anistsa (sorry can't spell that word) .I told the Dr that she made me very uneasy and that I would like to have her removed And he did remove her that is why he is such a good Dr and one that I feel I can trust.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
