My cycles have been so incredibly screwy since I got the band and I wanted to know if anyone else has been in this situation. I am 3 weeks post surgery and have had a couple 15-20 day cycles. Anyone else in this boat?

Mine were too. I assumed that it had to do with the rapid weight loss. I would have a period that lasted several weeks. It would stop for a day or two and start back up. Since I'm over 50 and have no intention of ever becoming pregnant again I went and had endometrial ablation done in December '09. I had a very mild period a few weeks later and haven't had another one since! :)

Wow, if I was older I would totally go that route because I am also done having kids. I am only 34 so unfortunately it's not an option for me. I guess I should speak with my OB about this because maybe it isnt so normal....

Well,

Not quite in that boat.

What I thought was weird, on the day of my surgery my Period came on, That was a suprise. I have always had irregular periods for most of my adult life. However since the surgery I have had regular periods. So in that way, this has been a positve experience for me.

Maybe it is just your body becoming acclaimated to the Lapband. It is early yet so maybe you will level out. I would mention it on your next check up though, just to make sure.

Ask your doctor. You may be a candidate for it since your periods are so long and screwy. Age shouldn't really play a factor in it as long as you understand you will probably never be able to become pregnant. (A plus in my book!)

It's perfectly normal for your periods to be irregular after surgery. Your body is under stress from the surgery, and coupled with the drastic change in diet and rapid weight loss your hormones are probably all sorts of screwed up. It will eventually stabilize. One of my weight loss victories has been finally having a normal cycle and lighter periods after years of painfully heavy periods and a very irregular cycle. Give your body some time to adjust.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
