Sugar & Carbs Question

Recommended Posts

The majority of the things I eat are sugar free but every now and then I do eat something that had some kind of sugar in it (it's unavoidable).

My first question is..what are considered "good sugars" and if there are no good sugars then how many grams of sugar should not be exceeded in a day. Myfitness pal says 24 grams for a 1200 calorie a day diet. Does this sound right?

Second question is about carbs..myfitness pal says 165 grams a day which seems extremely high to me..how many grams of carbs is ok to eat in one day?

I know that everyone body is not the same, I'm just looking for reasonable figures because I have no clue!!

I don't know anything about the sugar questions, but I can tell you I aim to keep my carbs under 100g per day. Closer to 50. the better for me. If I have too many then I crave more, and the cycle continues...

I don't really count sugers/carbs. On the other hand I don't keep any crackers, Cookies, breads in my house. I can eat bread I just choose not to. The only time I have bread is if I'm out at a restaurant and they have fancy bread (not those cheap white rolls, but nice bread). I only have cake or ice cream at family birthday parties (like once every 3 months). In my opinion carbs from fruit or veggies (raw no suger or butter) are not a problem.

My goal for, carbs is 50g and for, sugar it is 24g I do great with the sugar always below, but my carbs, have been in the 80's,and 90's. This week's goal is to hit under 50g of carbs. Maybe that is,why I am not losing this past week.

The deal with carbs is that they raise your blood sugar. This causes your body to produce insulin, which stores the sugar in your blood as fat. Some carbs are "better" than others. They include whole grains (100% whole wheat breat and Pasta, brown rice) and whole pieces of fruit. The good carbs have Fiber, which slows down the absorbtion of the carbs and helps keep your blood sugar stable. Fat also slows down the absorbtion of the carbs. It's good to say, have a little cheese with fruit or a little all natural Peanut Butter on the whole wheat bread.< /p>

All that being said, I ate a very low carb diet when I was loosing. I stayed away from all bread, pasta, potatoe, corn, fruit- anything with significant carbs. I probably ate about 20-30 carbs a day. I also ate low fat. My typical day was a low carb protien shake for Breakfast, lean meat and veggie for lunch and dinner and a snack of 1/4c nuts and lowfat cheese sticks. I lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. I also work out 5 or so days a week. I started going to the gym about 4 months post op.

Hope all this helps and good luck.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
