Sore throat-worried sick

Recommended Posts

I had my band put in on June 1st this year. After about 3 weeks, I started having throat pain and canker sores all inside my mouth. My surgeon suggested that I take an acid reducer which I have been on ever since. I have a prescription for nexium that I took before for acid reflux. All seemed ok for awhile and now the throat pain is back and it hurts to swallow. I have not had a fill yet. I have a 9 cc band. I am worried something is terribly wrong. I have had some esophagus issues in the past and I am worrried that this is just making things worse. My surgeon is in Mexico, so I can't go back to him. I am going to go see my family doc on Monday and see what she thinks. I am wondering if I've made a horrible mistake. Freaking out.

Go to a E.R.... I don't know if your Doc will touch this.

That's why I tell people to get Banded in your state.

I know it's cheaper, but is it worth the risk !

I am so sorry you are going through this; it must be scary. Do you have a fever, swollen glands or joint pain, headache or joint pain? I agree with Shirley, your symptoms are alarming enough (to me at least) for immediate intervention. Get thee to an E.R. Take care and let us know how you are.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
