Can my band really only hold 4cc

Recommended Posts

So I went to a new Dr. for a fill today and he pulled out what I had in my band and said that it was mostly full already. He said I had the old band and it can only hold 4cc's and right now i'm at 3.4. Then he tried to convince me to convert to the sleeve. Could it be possible that my band can only hold 4cc? I got it about 5 years ago.

4cc is the original band. When I got mine 3 years ago they had just started using the 10cc. Now they have one that holds 14cc. If you've had yours 5 years then, yes it's probably 4cc. It might hold slightly more than that but not much. Just curious, why did you change doctors?

Wow... I'd have a hard time with a doctor doing my fill and then trying to talk me into a revision.

Hate to say it, but if hes your new Dr. then he might be looking to do a revision to get some money out of you :(

Are you still losing weight at all? Be sure to get a second opinion before you do anything!!

good luck!!

There are many different versions of the lapband. The first generation was 4cc the the second generation was 9.75/10 and then third generation ( what a lot of people have now) called lapband ap is 10cc or 14cc.

So it is possible that you have the first generation band. There is nothing wrong with that band at all. There are people on here who have that band and are successful.

You can listen to what your doctors suggests but only do what you think is best for you.

How is your weight loss going? Are you at or close to goal? Were you considering the sleeve before be mentioned it?

Now if you are at 3.4cc and it is a 4cc band I say you might be able to get maybe 1cc more into that band. Don't forget there is the tubing and some saline can be in there too.

I agree, I switched because he was SO MUCH closer than my other dr. and a whole lot less busy. Easier to get in when I needed too. Guess I will be switching back!

If you are having complications, then consider revision. But revision for revisions' sake? No thank you!

Most insurance companies in the US don't cover the sleeve yet, so you'd likely have to pay out of pocket for it (if that is a factor for you).
