Choosing a Lap Band Surgeon !!!

Recommended Posts

I recently went to a seminar & met with the Surgeon, although i dont feel much comfortable with him doing my surgery. Due to the fact that after i looked him up, he apparently had 3 deaths after doing the lap band on patients.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can find the right Surgeon.???

After reading his history i started to think twice about getting the lap band surgery:(

Death is always a risk when you undergo surgery. It's seldom due to something the surgeon did or did not do. What was the cause of death in those 3 patients? It could have been a blood clot, reaction to anesthesia, etc, things that have nothing to do with the surgeon and could not be predicted. The mortality rate in lapband surgery is about 1:2000 (almost double that for gastric bypass). Without weight loss, you have a 25% chance of dying from obesity related causes. Don't let the fear of death keep you from having surgery. If anything, the fear of premature death should convince you to have it!

Scroll down the Forum until you see your state, click on it. Now you will see cities, search for what area you want, then click on that. Some Dr.'s names should come up including the one you seen. Check them all out, and see if it helps.

Look for a CENTER OF EXCELLENCE Seal for him or the Hospital, and of course you want the best ! So chief Surgeon is a good start.

Good Luck with your search, Shirley.

I'm not sure what the cause of the 3 deaths was, but i am aware that all surgery's are a risk, although i do know these 3 deaths were a couple days after getting the lap band. Which is my concern, if it occured due to the lap band.

If the deaths occurred a couple days after surgery I would guess that blood clots were the cause. (Of course that's only a guess). That would be something out of the surgeons control. While precautions can be taken in patients with a history of clotting, the risk can't be completely eliminated. That's why we are told to walk walk walk after surgery so blood clots don't have a chance to form. I would not shy away from this doctor because of these deaths without having all of the facts.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
