lfisher 0 Posted July 19, 2011 I am on the 3rd day of a 5 day pre-op diet. 2 protien shakes per day and 1 "sensible meal" kind of reminds me of my old "slim fast"days!!! Feeling good, still excited for surgery Thursday!
Knaroz 31 Posted July 19, 2011 lucky devil I had 2 weeks of nothing but the shakes, shakes only. And that was during July 4th lol.
brbm6 6 Posted July 19, 2011 I had 2 weeks of shakes pre-op and 2 weeks of shakes post-op. It sucked! Glad not everyone is as miserable as I was.
lfisher 0 Posted July 19, 2011 Wow! It surprises me how different the process is for everyone since we are all having the same procedure? I also had to lose 5% of my body weight prior to getting insurance approval. Is that the norm?
MustangMama 2 Posted July 19, 2011 I'm in the throws of the 2 week pre op shake only diet... and it DOES suck. Knowing I have another 3 weeks of this is a little disheartening but I am comforted by the fact the surgery will remove my hunger for a couple of days anyway. lol! TwinMom74 11 Posted July 19, 2011 I had 2 weeks of shakes pre-op and 2 weeks of shakes post-op. It sucked! Glad not everyone is as miserable as I was. I will soon be prepping for my 2 week pre-op diet. Which shakes did you find to be tastier? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards,
MustangMama 2 Posted July 19, 2011 TwinMom... I didn't really have a choice in the matter. My doc wants us all to use Bariatric Advantage. I did try Syntrax Nectar mixed with Crystal Light... and thought it was a little worse. (If that is even possible) I have found if I make a shake using coffee and sugar free Toriani syrups with a little cocoa powder they are almost tolerable though. It took me about a week to find a combination of flavors that masked the smell enough for me to be able to get it down with out gagging...but I am REAL sensitive to smells. dyingbreed 1 Posted July 21, 2011 does everyone have to do the two week pre-op diet before the surgery? I've heard some say 5 days.
cat lady 10 Posted July 21, 2011 does everyone have to do the two week pre-op diet before the surgery? I've heard some say 5 days. I am in the process of doing my 1 week pre op diet. Mostly liquids, Protein shakes, but I can have veggies and fruit if needed.....and they are needed. I get so bloated from the Protein Shakes and after 2 a day I can't have any more. Having surgery Monday.....nervous.....CAT

MustangMama: Wow---you and I seem to have a lot in common, from the smell sensitivities to our starting/ending surgery dates (appx). Today I schedule my surgery for August 15th, so on August 1st I'm scheduled to start my 2 week pre-op diet---not looking forward to the experience from what you've mentioned and I've read. I am very excited however to get the surgery done. How much time will you be taken off from work? I forgot to ask that question to my doctor.

The purpose of the pre-op diet is so that your liver can be rid of the excess fat, consequently shrinking. Since the liver sits right in front of the area where the band will be place, the doctors will be moving that baby around. Shrinking the liver will allow the doctors to work around it easier and cause less damage to it. Best of luck!

MustangMama 2 Posted July 22, 2011 You know... once you get past the first 2-3 days of the liquid diet its not that bad. I'm not gonna lie though... I was HURTING on day 2. Between the hunger pains and headaches I didn't think I was gonna be able to do it but it got a lot better. I guess it was just my body getting used to it. Now...its all good. I even cook dinner for my family every night! And I am a full time student so I didn't have to worry about taking off from work but my doctor recommends 2 weeks off, although I suppose it depends on the person.
