Too much water?

Recommended Posts

Know I know we are supposed to get in 64 oz's of Water but is that too much for the winter time. I get in 64+ but I always go to the sauna and steam room at the gym to try to sweat because I fear of retaining too much does anyone else have those thoughts?

Nope. "Too much" Water would really mean like 200+ ounces or even more. It's really hard for a normal person to drink too much. The more you drink, the more your body loses through urination. Not to worry!!

Before banding I aimed for 128 ounces ( a gallon) daily. Didn't always make it but got in at least 3 quarts and never had any problems. Your body needs Water for so many of its functions...I don't think you need to worry. If you still are concerned, talk to your PCP...I think they will also reassure you.

I have heard opinions from both sides of the story. I've heard some people say that too much Water can be hard on your kidneys. I've also heard that you HAVE to get in your 64 Fluid ounces daily.

Personally, I've noticed that since being banded I require more Water. Even in the wintertime. If I get in at least the 64 ounces and just use that as a guideline, then I do not get that hot flash and faint feeling like I'm going to pass out. I also noticed that I have more energy and feel a little peppier too.

The reason its hard on your kidneys is because too much Water will wash all of the sodium out of your system which is necessary for carrying water to your cells and so much more. Check out that site I listed above. It has great info and is a quick read.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
