Slow weight loss/Plateau

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 6, and have lost only 14 pounds since then. It seems

as though I have been at the 14 pound plateau for the last three weeks. I

exercise, make sure I get plenty of Protein, but I am definitely doing something

wrong. Suggestions? Anyone else experiencing this? Am I expecting too much too soon?

Thanks,

You're expecting too much too soon. After surgery, a lot of us have the same problem. I think of it as my body crossing its arms and stamping its foot and yelling "I'm not losing any more weight until I figure out what the hell is going on around here." Just keep sticking to the program and it'll start coming off again.

Yuo, happens to alot of people! I lost about 15 the first two weeks and then stopped for about three weeks. and then your body will be getting healed and stop freaking out and decide to lose again. But you need to stick with the diet, dont get discouraged. it will come off. You will more than likely lose inches during this time!!!!

good luck!

I had the same issue of thinking that I should be 30lbs lighter a month after my surgery. The truth is that we can not compare our weight loss with others. Don't worry if you are working with the band it will do its job. Set a goal for minimun of 4lbs a month. That is the way the band works. Like the other post said its your body wondering what the hell is going on! And remember some people have more weight to loss than others so the beginning weight loss for them will be more. It has really only been a month believe me you will loss.

i had surgery on the 9th of june and am exactly where you are in weight loss and have been at a stand still for the last couple of weeks since i started regular food. i lost 6 lbs week before surgery and 14 since then.

Does your surgeon put saline in the band at time of surgery? My surgeon does not so when i look at these people that have lost alot more weight then me that had surgery around the same time most of them have better restriction because they have saline in their band at time of surgery and it helps hold them over until their first fill. I get my first fill tomorrow and cannot wait.

i wouldnt worry about it yet everyone loses different it also depends on how much you weigh people with more weight to lose usually lose more quickly in the beginning also.

Just keep doing the right thing we are still pretty new post op it will happen!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
