Where are the older bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am new, not banded and in the researching phase. Do you guys ever hear from bandsters that were done 6-7 years ago. I just wonder how most of them are doing? I am like most of you, really worried about paying for complications. Is it worth it?

Nursemichelle, I am thinking along the same lines as you are and asked the same question. It would set my mind more at ease to hear from people that far out.

To be honest, the only people I have seen on boards that are farther out (3 years) have eroded it seems. I hope someone can correct me if I'm wrong about that observation.

I asked the same thing when I first started posting. Tizag, who is from Israel, responded that they have been doing it about 10 years there. She said that most of the people she knows who have had it that long have had to have another surgery for one reason or another.

I appreciated that information but decided to have the surgery anyway...I'm guaranteed to have problems related to super MO within 10 years, too, and this ultimately seemed worth the risk to me.

Emily

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
