jen120 23 Posted July 18, 2011 I think just about every weight loss surgery program requires a psych eval. Totally common and nothing to worry about. They just want to make sure you understand you know what you are getting into and dont have unrealistic expectations. Good Luck!

Hi, if you are asking how common is it to have to have psych evaluations, I believe that all doctors in the "centers of excellence" require it and I believe most insurances require it. roziecakes 20 Posted July 18, 2011 I think that most surgeons require a psych eval. I was self pay and I had to get one as well. I think it's important. I think that it's important to be mentally ready for weightloss surgery because it's a big change emotionally as well as physically and requires the true desire to make a lifestyle change. Don't worry, it's not because anyone thinks you're crazy, lol!

My appt. with the psychiatrist was a breeze. Just took my family history, asked why I wanted the surgery--just general things. Nothing hard or scary. You'll do fine!
