Hi, I don't know what's wrong with me but everytime I eat a meal I feel guilty. Maybe I am enjoying it too much? Maybe I feel like I should be 'suffering' more?

I eat the amts the surgeon wants me & haven't gone over and I started exercising today. I just have this feeling like I am missing something.

Does anybody get guilt with eating?? How do I make it go away?

Therapist, honestly. This is the start of an eating disorder, in my opinion.

Remind yourself that eating is very important for your body. There is no need to feel guilty for giving your body nutrition that it needs.

It sounds like things are going well, you are eating the amount you should and are not having any problems with getting stuck or other issues. For that you should be thankful. It's ok to be happy and enjoy the process. I know I really enjoy my meals and have had no problems to date. I even had to increase my calories because I wasnt eating enough.

You should take that guilt and turn it into pride for following through and sticking to your plan! Each meal should be a affirmation that you are doing what you need to do to be healthy and lose weight.

Good Luck!

Chela,

Are you seeing a Dietician? I love my dietician because she takes time and converses with me about eating and what choices are great and what is bad. I feel relieved when she says that I am doing good, but I only feel gulity when I have eaten things that are not the best for me. I think that you should talk to someone about the way you are feeling. I too felt like that in the beginning because I felt like I was loving the taste more than I did before the surgery. But I think that was because I was on liquids for a month, and when I got that first morsel of food I felt like the clouds opened up and the sun began to shine.

You make the guilt go away by making the best foods choices possible. If you are eating to live and not living to eat then the guilt should subside. I hope this helps.

I guess it does feel like I am loving my food more (in the small amt that I am allowed).

Though today I noticed that people around me also make me feel guilty about what I eat.

For lunch I had a chicken & spinach sausage (3 oz) on a whole grain lite roll (1.5 oz), with a spoon of turkey chili and a sprinkle of low fat shredded cheese. It was 5.5 oz total, but someone at work remarked " I'm surprised you are able to eat ALL of that".

WTH?? My surgeon says I can eat between 4-6 oz, why make me feel like crap about my meal? :(

Ugh, I'm just frustrated I guess.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
