New to site and excited for the future!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am fairly new to the site. I've been viewing it for about 6 months and have decided to become a member!

I am attending a Lap Band seminar on August 2nd. After much research and consideration, I feel I am ready to move on in this journey. I called my insurance, found out I'm approved at 100% with no waiting periods etc.

I am excited but also scared at the same time. I have been heavy my entire life. I was in the military for 7 years and that was the healthiest I've ever been. I gained almost 100 lbs during my pregnancy with my son, and have been unable to lose the weight. I have tried everything. I plan on using the band as a tool along with exercise and eating right.

Once again, I'm glad I've found this site, and look forward to chat with all of you through this process!

God Bless,

Darah

CONGRATULATIONS and Thank you, I'm so excited! I keep thinking in my head that something will go wrong and my doctor won't perform the surgery! lol

How are you feeling? Have you gone back to work yet? What can I expect the first week, if you don't mind sharing your experience. :)

Hugs.

Welcome to the site, Darah. I, too, am in the process. I doubt if I will have surgery before October due to medical and insurance hoops to jump through. I found the informational seminar very helpful. I have found this website to be very supportive for me. All the best to you! And thank you for serving our country.

Melinda

Hi Kimmie!

I wrote a blog (you can find it in my profile under blogs) about my experiences this past week. I invite you to read it in case it comes handy for your upcoming big week!!

I feel very good! I will return to work on Thursday, not that I'm in a hurry to do that ;)

Keep in touch!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
