What am I doing wrong??

Recommended Posts

Went back to the doctor last Wednesday for my 2-week Post Op visit and had lost 22lbs. I was very excited, but now that I'm eating real close to solid foods I got on the scale this morning and it was up 7lbs. I have been staying away from bread, starches and just eating veggies and a little fruit. I have also ate some Beans and meat to get my Protein in. I haven't even been getting 1,000 calories day in, which is much less than I was eating before. I'm just stumped and can't figure out what I've done wrong. A friend had it done about 2 months before me and she's already lost 70lbs. Please help me get on the right track, because apparently I'm not doing something right.

i'm going through the same thing - i was banded 7/5 - i lost 13 pounds on the 14 day pre-op and 7 in the first week after surgery. I have lost nothing since and gained almost a pound back. i moved to soft foods on the 8th day following surgery - I HAVE NOT CHEATED ONCE! i've stayed at my dr. recommended 800-900 calories per day - plus i have been doing cardio - treadmill and swimming. I did 3000 calories per day and no exercise prior to banding - i do not understand the scale at all AND AM SO FRUSTRATED I COULD SCREAM OR CRY!!!! how on earth am i doing this well with food and exercise and only gaining rather than losing???????????:(

2 weeks post-op, I would not get too worried. I had to learn that the real process does not begin till after 4-6 weeks post-op. It took me 3 fills before I could say the band started doing what I expected it to do all along.

Everyone is different. Do not compare (and compete) with other people.

Another reason I keep the surgery to myself, and make it my own personal program.

HI!! I'm in Dover as well. I don't have a surgeon yet. Do you mind me asking what insurance you are going through. I'm going through Tricare and I'm hoping it's simple.

Thanks!

I have Tricare and overall I didnt feel that the process was that hard. The big thing for me was that they wanted proof of history that I had high blood pressure that required medicine because I was not heavy enough to qualify based on weight alone. Best of luck to you.

Since you are only 2 weeks post op, don't worry so much about actual weight loss at this point. Your body is trying to heal from surgery and it's normal to gain some weight during this period. Make sure you are getting enough Protein so you can heal and make sure to hydrate with plenty of Water or calorie-free, caffeine free liquids.

The weight loss will come!

I am now 8 weeks post op and I feel it has been slow, too! On my preop I lost 8lbs, then after surgery I gained 10lbs, I guess it was Fluid retetion due to the iv's, post op I was following my food intake exactly and barely eating 500 calories for 2 weeks post op, lost very little like maybe 2 lbs, as soon as I added mushy foods and increasing my calorie intake with an additional Protein Shake or light bel cheese to 900 cal. Weight started coming off like 2 lbs a week. I think, my metabolism slowed down because it thought I was in starvation mode. Just add a additional Protein shake a couple of days and then go back to 1000 cal to see if it helps. But, don't get discouraged. Keep eating healthy and drink your Water. I know it's tough. But we are all on this journey with you.

Hey ladies,

I wouldn't be too worried. From what my doc and nutritionist stated to me, you won't really begin to lose weight until after your first fill. I was told to expect to be hungry for 4-6 weeks and not to worry if I haven't lost a ton of weight. I also really remind myself that I have lost 15 pounds already and that was more than I could do without the band!

Keep your chin up ladies! You can do this!! Most importantly, you are not alone!!

Hey there!! I have Conventry Insurance. I started to see Dr. Brebia at Eden Hill Medical Center and was suppose to have surgery May 27th, however because Milford Memorial had not acquired their "Center of Excellence" I had to switch doctors and ended up going to Baltimore.

Thanks for responding. My BMI is at 43 so I think I'll be good. I do have another question though, who was your surgeon and did they require a 6 month diet? I'd really like to get this in as soon as possible, so I'm hoping for a surgeon that doesn't require a 6 month diet before putting it in. I'm going to the seminar next Tuesday and then next Thursday I meet with my pcm.

Yes most all require a 6 month diet. Or they may accept your PCP or if you've been going to a Gym for the past 6 months. I started my process at the end of October 2010 and just had my surgery Jun 30th. I can honestly say it goes by very quickly. There are a lot of clearances you have to get before they will do the surgery too. Of course these were all things my insurance company demanded.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
