When I first had the lapband, I was really frustrated. I felt like I could eat "anything"! It made me mad because I felt like the "band" should be doing something. I'm only 2 weeks out, but just this week I've tried to be more patient and have learned to listen to my body. To the signs of actual physical hunger. You can read and read and read books, but until you have the procedure, its hard to understand what they are talking about. By sitting back and thinking about what I'm doing and how I feel, it all is beginning to make sense. I thought I would feel something right away and that all my feelings of hunger would be gone. Boy was I in for a reality check. Things are getting a little better every day. And I'm so thankful to all of you who helped me with my last post :-) You guys are GREAT!:D

It would be nice if the lapband also took away cravings!! I wanted chocolate yesterday so bad I was ready to scream :P I know exactly what you mean about listening to your body. It's definitely a learning experience, figuring out when you are actually hungry or when you just "feel like eating", knowing when you are satisfied vs. full...but I am happy to learn new things and this is an important step that I have taken for a healthier me so bring it on body, I'm paying attention!!

I absolutely know what you're talking about. The hardest thing for me has been when I know I'm NOT hungry any more, but there's food left, and I have to fight to stop myself from eating it. This band thing is HARD. Don't let anyone tell you differently!

Six years later and i'm still working on this! This morning I bought a piece of carrot cake to go with my coffee, had a bite and realised I didnt really want it, i'd ordered it purely on impulse. So I left the rest, but its so hard to always stop and think first!

I start to kinda hiccup and if I listen to it and obey it, I will be fine. When you start to have restriction you really have to start listening to your body. :) still learning that part now, 3 months out.

I used to think I didn't have a "sign" that I was getting full and then lately I noticed that I get this feeling like I have to burp (but there's nothing there to burp...if that makes sense). THIS is my sign!!! It only took me 7 months to figure it out...lol

It took me and entire YEAR to adjust to what a reasonable dinner plate looked like. I overserved myself enormously at first, it gradually got better but it took a year for me to be comfortable seeing like one tiny lamb loin chop, a spoon of mashed potato and a small pile of peas on a salad plate as dinner!

Now unfortunately I underserve my poor growing teenage boys. They get literally 1/3 the amount of dinner their friends would get and then I yell at them for snacking! I cant bring myself to believe that a human being can actually ingest, for example, a restaurant sized meal and survive.

It actually stood me in good stead whilst I've been unfilled for 8 months. Becuase I still served what looked normal to me (ie. small portions) and when you're not mentally thinking "this isnt enough", surprisingly, it actually IS enough.

Thank you for posting this! I have not been banded yet, but I thought the same thing! I had my seminar last night and one of the things the Dr. addressed to my questions, was that after the initial surgery the band is relatively loose. He said they do that because of all the swelling around it..and over the next 2 to 4 weeks as they fill the band and let thing adjust and settle you will begin to feel the restriction.

So glad I went to that seminar!

I understand where you are coming from. I just posted on here about how frustrated I am because I'm not "feeling any different." I was banded 4/18/11 and am still learning. I try to pay attention and have finally learned that I "Sigh" a little when I'm done....I don't eat till full anymore, I listen to my sigh to come and then I stop. My problem is that my sigh happens and I stop but I'm hungry again in about 2 hours. That is what is frustrating to me. I am stomach hungry not head hungry so I eat and I just don't feel like I'm accomplishing much. We can do this.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
