aliciab 8 Posted July 16, 2011 I'm interested to know what products a lot of people use in their pre-op diets. My doctor is less restrictive but I'd like to have an idea of what shakes your physician recommended or what specific guidelines they gave you with regards to calorie count, carb count etc and what products you came upon yourself or other essentials you think were life saving during the pre-op. I just want to be prepared.
Cindy C 150 Posted July 16, 2011 The only thing that matters is that you lose a few pounds before surgery to shrink your liver. A lot of doctors don't even require it. Mine didn't but I took it upon myself to do so. I figured if I made it easier for him, it would inevitably make it easier on myself down the road.
itskellyraye 0 Posted July 16, 2011 My doctor recommended shakes that have less than 20g of carbs per serving and more than 15g of Protein per serving. I haven't found some that I really like yet. The EAS premade shakes from Walmart weren't too bad though.

Jello; sugarfree popsicles, oatmeal, skim milk, strawberries, salad, tomatoes and cucumbers. These are things that I was allowed to have. My doctor puts us on a 3 week pre-op diet. I could also have chicken and fish for dinner with the salad or certain vegetables. two shakes a day and then the light dinner. It was doable and it worked to shrink the liver.
