OK, my surgery date is August 18th. Last time I was at the gym I weighed myself and turned out being 312. I think when I went in for my first weigh in I was about 309. They told me I need to lose about 15 pounds. So I have a month to make about 20 pounds fall off. I have been eating Breakfast. Small portions though, and high in Protein. For lunch I usually grab a lean cuisine or something light. At dinner I eat a well balanced meal. Does anyone have any tips for me for dropping the 20 pounds. That sounds like so much to me. I dont know if I can do it in that amount of time unless I go on some liquid diet for the whole month. Ew! Thanks in advance!

I've lost almost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. I drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast, one for lunch and lean protien and veggies and a salad for dinner. No carbs! Except for the fruit I have in my Protein shake sometimes. If I'm feeling really hungry, sometimes I'll have eggs and bacon for breakfast. Or cheese and turkey for a snack. You can do it! The first week is hard but after that it's super easy! Good luck!

My preop appt was about a month before my surgery. I ate myself stupid the first 2 weeks and then buckled down and dieted the last 2. I managed to lose 15 lbs. When you're over 300 lbs it's pretty easy to lose that much since its mostly Water weight anyway.

I've been on my pre-op diet for a week now and have lost 10 lbs. I eat mostly eggs, canadian bacon, or a Protein shake for breakfast. For lunch, I'll make half a tuna fish salad sandwich or something. And if I get hungry before diner I'll have another Protein Shake. Then, for dinner I've had a lot of chicken or ham with broccoli. Last night, we had pork chops and a can of mixed vegetables. I haven't been stingy with the sauces either! So, it's easier than you might think. Plus, all the Protein doesn't leave me as hungry as I thought I would be. Just try and keep the carbs as low as possible, and the protein above 80g a day and it should be no problem!

Just keep reminding yourself that if you don't do it, then you won't be able to get banded! That's what's keeping me motivated.

Thank you all for the replies! I will try the Protein Shake thing. I still haven't added that to my diet yet. Here is hoping this works. I am kind of excited to see what I weigh in at when I go to the gym. I try to weigh myself only once a week. Praying for the best! ^_^

Of course it depends entirely on what you're used to eating - what your energy needs are. If you're 500lb and live on 6000 calories a day you can lose weight darn fast still eating what I'd call a lot of food. But for me personally to shift 20lb in a month - a Protein shake diet is the only way I can think of to do that - 1000 calories a day or less, lots of cardio and just put up with being starving hungry. Now, I'm at a low weight, so no doubt you fit somewhere in the middle there. Its certainly doable, not pleasant, but doable.

However, there's no magic in Protein shakes. If you can stick to 1000 calories or less a day on real food you'll lose weight just the same. But presurgery, high Protein low carb is important - it shrinks your liver and much as I dont believe in low carb diets, its the best way to lose a lot of weight fast.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
