Finding a Lap Band Doctor

Recommended Posts

I want to get the Lap-Band and had one Doctor on line check with my insurance to confirm my coverage. The problem is my insurance will only cover up to 80% and I pay the 20%. I don’t have the money or want to pay the 20%. In addition the hospital wants me to pay for my first consolation in addition to my $20.00 co-pay $15.00 for a filing service and 1080.00 for some type of consultation service with $200.00 up front. and the reminder of the fees when completed. I don’t have the approximant $4600.00 additional out of pocket monies. Does anyone know of a different solution? Possibly a doctor who will take the 80% as payment in full? Email:rwilliams@petersonhyd.com

It depends on how bad you want the surgery! My insurance would only cover 80% but I had to pay out of pocket for pscy eval, nutritionist and a few other things before the surgery. I took 3 years to get the O.K. and after the first two denials, I was ready to give up but I did not. The hospital in Vegas was great to me, they gave me a payment plan of $100 a month and that was paid off within a year of my surgery. I almost 3 yrs out and never regretted this. Maybe you might think if you have to pay out of pocket, you might stick with the plan more than if it was FREE! It made me even more determined to make this happen and I feel great for my accomplishment. I am to goal and the bill is paid for. Good luck on your decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
