My Dr's office just called to schedule my surgery. OMG! Finally this is happening. I'm having a hard time figuring out when to do it though. My best friend of 12 yrs is getting married. I'm in the wedding & want to make sure that I'm feeling good. My questions for everyone is if I have my surgery 4 weeks from the wedding, 1 How was everyone feeling by then, & 2 I know this might be ridiculous but when my friends & I have a party, we PARTY, so how long did everyone wait to have a cocktail? I know I can party without it but I wouldn't mind having one or being able to toast with some wine? Any advice would be great!

4 weeks is plenty and yes, you'll be able to have a drink or two- just know that the alcohol might hit you a lot faster after surgery than it does now.

I was 4 weeks post op.. Now mind you this girl used to knock back 15 Gin and Tonics a round... I picked Crystal Light Lemonade and Raspberry Vodka as my post op drink of choice.. and yes it hits you a lot faster, half a normal sized drink I was feelin a wee bit tipsy.. Enjoy and have fun :-)

I also love diet cranberry juice and vodka with fresh lime. It's called a "cape-codder" if you order it around here. Make sure you ask if the juice is diet though, at a bar they usually only have the regular juice and the calories are wicked steep! Also, I totally agree, I'm 3 sheets to the wind after 1 drinkypoo now. Yikes!

My doctor isnt so strict when it comes to drinking alcohol after having the band.

He recommends staying away from carbonated drinks and only having 1-2 because you will get drunk faster.

4 weeks after the band you will be back to normal. I was about 99% back after a week

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
