I was banded on 6/17 and lost a total of 21 lbs from pre op diet to 1 week after surgery. I am 4 weeks post op and have noticed a 2 lb weight gain in the past 2 weeks. Why is this? I gained weight moving from liquid phase to mushie phase. It's Frustrating! When do I really start losing?

Keep moving forward- and be patient. It seems a lot of people don't lose much (if anything) 6-8 weeks afetr surgery and then suddenly they start dropping pounds. Don't get discouraged-keep your fill appointments and do 1 thing better each day (drink more Water, take a walk, take your vitamins). Keep your eye on the prize at all times and good things will begin to happen. The lapband isn't for someone without patience because it is a slower method for most. Good luck to you and hang in there-there is a light at the end of the tunnel even if you can't see it yet!

Thanks for your advice. It's hard but I can be patient.

Your body is still healing and is trying to figure out what's going on. Gaining after you move from liquid to mushies seems to be common due to the calorie increase. Don't worry too much about it but make sure you are following the instructions on your diet. Count your calories and make sure you're not drinking your calories. Get your exercise in. I'm almost 9 weeks post op and the weight is coming off. I'm averaging anywhere from 3-4 lbs a week. I will admit, I need to get to the gym more as I haven't been going! I've been relying on walking the dog and I'm sure I could be doing better. You may not start losing until after your first fill as well. Right now you most likely have no restriction.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
