Pre Op Lap Band Surgery weight loss too much

Recommended Posts

Funny thing happened the other day. I went to my pre op meeting and got on the scale to find out I had lost 16 pounds in a month. The person taking my weight said you do not look that big and went to reread the BMI chart to see if I was still in the danger zone. LOL just made it by two points. Anyone ever have this happen to them?

I think the stress of getting the op was getting to me that is why the weight loss. I am so looking forward to my op and weight loss.

Stay well and be safe all.

Mary

Hello there! :) I was reading your post and was just curious how you went about losing that 16lbs in one month. I am pre op and need to lose about to 20 more lbs before my dr will do surgery and was wondering if you would mind sharing what you did last month. :D

I'm not sure if this even applies.. but.. after researching this for months now, I've only just decided it was the right move for me and started making provisions to get this done. Since I've made the decision, I've been sincerely happier! My brother looked at me yesterday and told me I had dropped some weight over the past couple of weeks. Maybe my cortisol levels have dropped and all the stress I was under before has melted away (at least for the time being ) and all the "happy-brain juice" (aka endorphins) have crushed the cortisol resulting in weight loss... who knows!!?!?

I don't know your stress levels--or lack thereof--but if you've been happier and more excited that could be a factor in your weight loss.. especially if you weren't meaning to lose so much.

All the best!!

I am afraid that thats whatas gonna happen to me. I am on the low end of the bmi buut I have health issues. Im scared to diet because then I really may not be eligable but i dont want to conrinue to eat because then I will gain and it will really suck if I am not approved for surgery. Can they tell you you cant have the surgery if you lose weight while going through the process?

From what I've heard they are supposed to go by your initial weigh in. So if you lose weight and go under a bmi of 40 they should still use the initial one.

When I was trying to get my insurance to cover it I had some of the same problems. I have diabetes so I have a co-morbidity but I still needed to stay above a BMI of 35. Every doctor that looked at me did a double take and would ask me the same questions over and over. "How tall are you?" "How much do you weight?" I had to gain 10lbs just to make sure I stayed at that weight. Once I figured out I would have to pay it all myself it became a lot easier. My BMI is now 37 with the 10lbs added on. I'll be spending the month or so before my surgery just trying to take it off. The whole situation and what the insurance companies put you through is ridiculous.

Once I made the decision to go ahead with the surgery things did become a lot less stressful for a while. Now I just seem to be gaining a full head of stress steam though. Just nervous as heck.

I was banded yesterday at Norwood Hospital, all and all a great experience. I can't believe I finnally did it. How low is your bmi?

Hi BamaBrandy,

Believe it or not I just did not feel like eating a lot and YES Stress did ply a large part in the weight loss. I find I drink at least a half a gallon of Water cut out my tea and coffee and I do so love coffee just did not feel like it. I eat a lot of Wendy's Pick 2 salads in NY they are 2 for $5.00 and they come with chicken. I get the salad and a chicken nuggets as the pick 2.

I do think stress plays a big part in MY weight loss.

I have faith in you and that you will loose weight soon just hang in there as it is baby steps sorry to say.

Good luck and please let me know how you get on.

Hi, They looked at my BMI and it was 40/41 on the cuff I guess. I must say I was thinking to myself you got to be kidding I have come this far and now I loose weight. Thank god they said don't worry you will still have your op just keep up the good work.

I wish you well.

Just hang in there that's all we can do. Funny how stress plays into weight loss and gain. Would love to take a hammer to stress better yet think I will take a band to it...lol

Good luck to you and let me know how you make out.

My BMI is 37. I am tall (5'10) and some say I dont look like I weigh as much as I do. I was thinking about not dieting until my appointment but i'm scared i will gain alot and then be denied. I would do it in a second if I knew for sure I was going to be able to get the surgery but imagine gaining 20 lbs only to be denied :( Did any of you diet before your appointments of just eat whatever>

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
