CheckYes 46 Posted July 14, 2011 I was allowed coffee after one week. You should check with your surgeon and find out what his/her rules are.

Melissannde 41 Posted July 14, 2011 Ask your surgeon or one of the nurses. We cannot advise on this matter.
slm2007 7 Posted July 14, 2011 I had Decaf within the first few days. Now I have a cup or two fo regular and I was banded on 4/18/11. Check with your doctor but the only issue is the caffine and you just have to make sure you "make up" for the caffine you take in...i.e. we are supposed to have 8 cups of "water" per day (64 ounces), my doctor told me if I have two cups of caffinated beverage (16 ounces), I have to drink an ADDITIONAL 16 ounces of non-caffinated beverage to balance it out. Make sense? Honestly, I'm lucky if I drink 32 ounces of ANYTHING per day. I didn't drink that much before surgery so trying to do so after is hard for me...I do notice if I drink more, I'm not as hungry so I don't know if that is part of the doctors strategy...keep em' full with liquid and they won't be hungry???? Anyhow, yes, I drink coffee and I LOVE IT! Good luck to you on your journey.
Jack 855 Posted July 14, 2011 Other than the obvious "I didn't even WANT coffee at first" after a couple weeks my surgeon gave me the OK to use it a bit.
bobrocky 8 Posted July 14, 2011 I was told I could have one cup in the morning.
roziecakes 20 Posted July 14, 2011 I was given coffee 10 minutes after surgery... and I've been having one cup every day since. However, I also have no history whatsoever of GERD or any kind of reflux, so that may be why my doctor thought it was okay. If it were me, I would definitely check with a doctor who knows your physical history and needs the best. Some people can't have coffee at all, some can have it right away, and some can have it within a week or two.

healthierme72 6 Posted July 14, 2011 I had coffee a week after and since then I drink about a cup a day. I am not a big coffee drinker. My doc. Didn't say anything. As long as I drink extra Water cause it can cause dehydration.
Jenn1214 120 Posted July 14, 2011 I stayed off coffee for six weeks to let everything heal. I probably could have added it back sooner but I didn't want to take a chance. I also read recently that it would take 4 cups or more of coffee a day to start causing dehydration. Not sure if that's really true so I always replace my caffeine intake with Water anyway.
