Pasta, Rice, Potatoes...

On my post-op diet sheet for this week I get to add in eggs, cottage cheese, cheese, blended meat, baked potatoes (no skin), rice, macaroni, noodles, rice cereals etc...

So tonight for dinner I had my first "meal" where I wasn't slurping Soup or cream of wheat and I had canned chicken, stouffers mac (it's super soft noodles and really saucy) and cottage cheese. A strange variety but I was wanting to just have a little scoop of each to see what would go down best and to my surprise I did JUST FINE with all three varieties. My friend who was banded 9 years ago couldn't believe they said I could be eating those carbs and also couldn't believe I got the mac down so good. Anyone else eat any of these or allowed these on the post-op diet? How did you do with them? How do you do with them now? I know I'm also feeling hardly ANY restriction now.

My surgeon says that he allows a lot of things in the post-op stage that he might not suggest later. . .

I had no restrictions just the amounts.

I'm really interested in how your 9 year out banded friend is doing!!!! Please give us an update, if she or he doesn't mind!

Once you get some fills you may find rice, Pasta, bread get stuck. I did. I would suggest staying away from them while your trying to loose. I swear by a lowcarb/lowfat/high protien diet. I lost 107 pounds in 10 months.

Tell me how you lost that much weight in 10 mths. That's great! I wanna be like you. I am pretty strict with the low carb/low sugar/high Protein diet as well. How much exercise do you do? I was banded 6/17. Thanks

I absolutely agree here.

I've cut out breads, pastas, rice, pretty much any white refined anything. I attribute that to my weight loss. I'm not a year out yet and have lost 106 pounds. Plateaued currently, but despite that fact, I don't think I would have gotten this far eating those things.

My surgeon doesn't want me to fill up on the carbs. At this stage I'm on soft foods, but I am only allowed 4-6 oz per meal with the majority going to Protein then veggies, then carbs. Ex. 3 oz fish, 1 oz carrots, 1 oz rissoto.

He says that the Protein makes you less hungry between meals.

Sure you can have some, but don't overdue it

Carbs are actually a good thing for you. Just a little though !

They help give the Protein a kick in the @ss, and that is a good thing.

So have a little, but enjoy that Protein with it.

My doctor thought I would starve at my 2 weeks post op mark and told me I could eat potatoe chips.

At first when your stomach is still healing the main thing is to stick with the consistency of what foods your doctor wants you to have and then when you are back to normal focus on the types of foods you eat.

Try to always get in a lot of Protein too.

I am d20 post op, and am still on mashed potatos, Protein shakes and scrambled eggs, next week I think I get to advance to your level, but I have found it a little difficult now that more "solid-like" foods are being ingested. I have only lost 26pounds since surgery on 6-22-22, starting weight 440, surgery day 427 and today 414 and I havent lost anything this past week, considering going back to liquids until reach my fill, any suggestions?

I'm not allowed any carbs except thru veggies and dairy. I'm 21/2 weeks out. He wants me on low low carb til i reach goal.greensmilies-004.gif

I know through the first 3 weeks I have been eating too many carbs because my diet has consisted of a lot of mashed potatoes. This week I have added more Protein and I'm trying to get a grasp on healthier meal options. It's just easy to each carbs through the first few weeks because a lot of them are soft (potatoes, noodles, etc.)

My doc started allowing them the second and third week, but did tell me not to get "used" to this because I couldn't live on them and expect to lose. I understand that completely. Good luck!

I have been unable to eat rice since I was banded. I was able to eat a little Pasta until a few fills in: now no pasta, no rice and only a rare piece of bread.< /p>

Even though you can eat those things doesn't mean you should! Restriction or no, pretend you're on a diet at least. The restriction will come. There's no way I would have founds such success if eating Pasta, potatoes and rice had been regular occurrences. Now I'm maintaining and even though I eat chocolate and creamy sauces and plenty of caloric foods, I still rarely eat bread or rice. It's just not worth it and it doesn't even bother me at this point. You can cheat later. For now try and tow the line!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
