broomt 1 Posted July 12, 2011 Not sure if any of you remember the post I made about the snide comments my personal trainer made to me when he found out that I was having WLS. He told me I was cheating and he expected better from me. Since then I have avoided the gym like the plague. Since it is 107 degrees outside today I decided to heck with him, I am going to go hit the treadmill at the gym that I am still paying membership fees for. As I was leaving I ran into him. He was genuinely shocked to see me and said that he just assumed I would use the band as an excuse to not work out. I told him that he obviously didn't know me nearly as well as he thought he did. He asked me when I had my surgery and I told him June 30 his jaw hit the floor because he couldn't believe I was back in the gym so soon. He also asked me how much I lost and I told him almost 12 pounds. He said he could tell, I looked like a different person already and that my face looked 10 years younger.....HAH, SO THERE Funny thing is, he has taken a renewed interest in me, wanting me to call him as soon as I am cleared for weights so I can be his new project. I told him I would think about it.
lifeisjustbeginning2011 11 Posted July 12, 2011 Tell him you want free sessions for all of his dumb negativity! LOL. Make him prove to you that he's on board with you before you pay him any money! Just my two pennies! You go girl!
Jenn1214 120 Posted July 12, 2011 You show him! I bet he feels pretty dumb right about now!
sassyfrass 24 Posted July 12, 2011 Well, I'm pretty stubborn sometimes.....so I'd probably tell him No.....I can manage on my own. I am stubborn enough to show him that I don't NEED him or anything he has to offer.
ButterflyM 2 Posted July 12, 2011 I agree, ask for a few complimentary sessions so that u are sure he is not still with the negative verbage!! Congrats 2u!
nesportsfan 2 Posted July 12, 2011 I'd tell him I would consider working with him only when he can show you he has researched WLS and EDUCATED himself on the pros and cons to each surgery...and the very important lifestyle changes that each surgery warrants. A personal trainer who would pass such judgement is not only way off base and ignorant....but is doing his clients a tremendous disservice by voicing his ridiculous and uneducated beliefs! He does not hold a medical degree and as such should never comment on such things in such an ill informed manner! He is perpetuating a negative and ignorant stereo type of WLS...which could ultimately be very detrimental to the very clients he is supposed to be helping. GAAAAA he really made me mad, when he said those things to you! 2 Lady_Dragyn and stateofzen reacted to this
roziecakes 20 Posted July 12, 2011 I'd still tell him no. His lack of knowledge about the band would cause me to question the amount of knowledge he has about physical fitness and health in general...
NJGirl32 43 Posted July 13, 2011 Absolutely tell him know0and say I really want to train with someone who is educated about weigh loss in all areas! That should put him in his place! I remember your original post very well! Thank you for the follow up! Remember: "Looking good is the BEST revenge!"
Debora Anne 3 Posted July 13, 2011 I would do the same thing Well, I'm pretty stubborn sometimes.....so I'd probably tell him No.....I can manage on my own. I am stubborn enough to show him that I don't NEED him or anything he has to offer.
aliciab 8 Posted July 16, 2011 I would not train with him at all. My brother is a trainer and would never say anything like that. Ask him if he has a degree in exercise physiology. When he says no, tell him you can only train with someone who has the knowledge and DESIRE to help you. BTW, I hope you brought up his gross ignorance to the manager of the gym and left a horrible rating on the web for him.
