Hoodia anyone??

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just came back from GNC. They sell Hoodia for $35.00 for 60 pills. You can either take 2/day for a month's supply, or 3/day for a 20day supply. I was so tempted to buy it to curb my hunger. I just think that is an awful lot of money ! I wish I heard from more people who have tried it and were satisfied. If I go ahead and buy it, will let you all know how it goes.

For those of you who have taken this product... I was concerned when I read in the article (see first post in this thread) that hoodia not only takes away all hunger but it also takes away your desire to drink. This can't be good, in fact it could be dangerous. Have any of you found it hard to keep up your daily Water intake when you were taking hoodia?

My question is does anyone know the affects that Hoodia has on the stomach? I'm paranoid about taking any kind of medication that might harm the stomach, which then might harm the band.

A friend of mine lost her band because her pcp prescribed an anti inflamatory med that was rough on her stomach and caused her band to erode.

I saw the 60 min. interview a couple of years ago and they said that the % of hoodia in the stuff that they sell in health food stores is very marginal and that it would be difficult to market the full strenght plant as it is . They are trying to reproduce it synthetically in the US and that is probably what is hitting the shelves. The plant itself is used to wain off starvation in Africa.

My doc recommended Hydroxy Cut to ward off hunger. Yesterday morning I took 3 according to directions and was "heart attack nervous" all day and night. Sheesh, I'm supposed to take that 3 times a day? No way.

Let me know how this new one works, k? Last thing DeLarla needs is speed, right?

By the way, don't even THINK about going backwards woman! You are my biggest inspiration and I just gagged down a chicken leg and ounce of cheese at 8:00 a.m. because of you. I'm not a morning eater, but it's the only way to make the weight come off. Slowly, but it's working.

I am really curious about this! Delalrla I took hydroxy cut pre-band and I thought I was gonna die! It is speed pure and simple. My heart was beating out of my chest. I have perfect restriction right now because of my last fill but it is always interesting to know other ways to curb the appetite. I am mainly interested for my sister. She is getting married in July.

TOday I started my Hoodia....

I'm happy to report it seems to be working, no jitters but controlled hunger...Hooray Hooray for me! I have made it through 2 nights of not going into the kitchen after 5:00pm only cuz I'm chained to the bed and have threatened my DH to kick my ass if he sees me anywehre within 5 ft of the kitchen.. now maybe by taking my hoodia I can unchain myself from my bed after 5:00 pm and go into the kitchen without doing much damage

FYI: for anyone that is interested.

www.vitaminlife.com

sells "hoodia".

Ive ordered things from this site many times, so I feel safe giving the address out. If you type in the name "Hoodia" in the search field on this site, it gives you several brands to choose from.

From my personal experience, Source Natural and NOW are a good companys to buy products from. ;)

Call me crazy but I'm finding the opposite to be true, seems I can not get enough Water. I definately have drank all my Water today and it is only 2:45 in the afternoon..been peeing all day long but it has been said that the San Tirbesman from the African Klalhari dessert used Hoodia to quench thirst.

What brand did you order? I am considering trying the "Pure Hoodia". Keep us updated as to whether this stuff really continues to cut the appetite some.

Ok so I broke down and bought myself some Hoodia at GNC today for $39.00. I took a pill at 11am, and by 2pm I had eaten half a box of Cheezits. Gee, I hope it works a little better than this !!!

I will let you all know how tomorrow goes.......

Sounds like so many things that are literally shoved down our throats to line the pockets of someone else. I did hear about Hoodia - and also some of the side effects of it - sleep probs, ingredients that are questionable, etc.

Remember Metab-o-Lite - you don't hear too much about that one because it ran it's course, people stopped buying it - so "they" had to come up with something with a different ring/zing to it.

Personally, I got the band so I'd never have to "go there" anymore.

If they come out with a prescription drug that has been tested and proven to work - I would look at that if I needed to - but not this stuff that appears in magazine ads and/or topics on TV programs. They know that anything having to do with wgt loss draws a huge viewing audience - because there are so many desparate people wanting and needing to loose weight.

You can buy a tapeworm in a capsule on the internet and there are people out there desparate enough to use that and risk their lives doing it.

I wouldn't want to encourage people in the direction of wgt loss capsules or anything like it. They just do not work.

I'll probably get some heat over this - but honestly - these ads and programs that give people false hope and take their hard earned money just make me sick.

I've been dreaming about it for 30 years or so. It's time to make it happen!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
