Ate a lot of soup tonight! Uh oh? Ok? Not sure? Help!

Recommended Posts

I woke up this morning feeling pretty restricted. I got in some fluids and had about 3/4 of a cup of a Protein Drink. I went all day with just little sips of Water and unable to drink much or was I hungry. I got home and at 7 pm tonight I was really hungry and it felt like I could finally eat. I'm on liquids so I got out some Soup and blended it and drank/ate it. That was 1 1/2 cups. I figured I wouldn't eat it all and I would save the rest. Well, to my surprise it was going down so easy and so good that I ate it all! I waited 30 minutes and still felt hungry. Which I was shocked also about. So I made more soup and did the same thing... this time a different soup and measured it out to be a little less than 1 1/2 cups. Again, ate it all. I feel satisfied and full but NOT overly full or stuffed. I can't believe I was even able to do this? I was scared to keep eating but it tasted good and was going down so easy.. I know I was REALLY hungry but even with being that hungry and able to slurp down that much soup should I of? There was no chunks, nothing to chew and it was going down like water. I need your opinions here, I'm a little worried that I did something wrong and worried that I wasn't full off of ONE cup.

You are more than okay. It was just liquid should go right through the band. But not eating all day and then eating a lot at night can become a habit and would be bad when you start on mushies and solids. Try to get something down you during the day so you won't be so hungry at night. I usually can't eat anything until about 2:00 pm and then my band is open and ready for food, but in the beginning after surgery for months I had no hunger and could go all day and not think about eating was not good for me.

I drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water a day, and it sound like your soup is about the consistency of water. So I really think it is pretty much going through you like water...literally! Maybe sip the soup in smaller increments all day long--that way, you won't be so hungry at night. You sound like otherwise you are doing GREAT! Keep up the good work!

My hunger is really kicking in finally. I feel that is I drank 3/4 of a Protein drink (chocolate Peanut Butter flavor with banana baby food) in the morning I have a more productive day! Yesterday I was only able to eat 1/8 of creamy chicken, 7 bites if spinach dip ( well chewed) my post op instructions say anything that can through a straw, so my friend tested the spinach dip through the straw LOL!! Anyways I drabk 1/4 of a skinny margarita and 1 small Bloody Mary (yummy!) I had no problems, of course I drank tons of Water too.

So my response to this post is I am able to get more down, day by day. The other night I got down a 3/4 can of cream of broccoli mixed with skim milk no problem and I was a little worried too! I am 9 days out and finally feeling better. So I think it is all part of our life changing journey!

Early postOp we are unfamiliar with both the "had ENOUGH" signal as well as "you really ARE hungry" message. We are used to being physically herded about by Belly Beasts that strive to control us as well as insisting they be in charge of eating as much as possible as often as possible regardless of hunger. Awareness of the more quiet voice that really is associated with 'hunger coming on' which trigger 'eating' rather than 'hunger MIGHT attack us' so we better 'eatEatEAT'. Learning the little signals and taking little amounts, gradually our brain learns how to control our belly regardless of "tastes so good". I love the sensation of recognizing "enough" in spite of whatever it was "tasting so good".

I have a lot of restriction in the Morning. By Afternoon to Evening I am STARVING ! So I will go in to see my surgeon on the 25th. for a fill. That should quiet it all down. but just a tweaking. I don't need much.

If this pattern continues for you, then you might need a fill also.

I don't know your situation, and I'm not a Doctor. This is just a thought being sent your way.

My surgeon likes me to not even think about food for 5-6 hours. How's it working for you?

You were just banded and probably don't have any fill in your band.

I know people who can eat almost an entire burger if they wanted 2 weeks post op ( don't recommend it though)

You will probably get to bandster hell in no time once you're having things other then liquids. Just be glad your "screwing up" with only liquids, its better then a solid food.

So what is a mini Tummy Tuck vs. a full tummy tuck? Why did you do the mini first? If you got the tucks in Korea, guess it wouldn't do any good to ask the price, as it may not be the same in the US.

Hahaha that is a loaded question ( getting off topic from the post)

I went for a mini (from the front of your one hip to the front of the other) to get rid of a bump left from my port when I got my first band removed. However after that I still wasn't happy so my doc extended the incision to the back of my hip to the back of the other hip. After that I still had extra skin around my back so he did almost a cirrcumference tummy tuck maybe 360 degrees around my body. We should have just done that in the first place but didn't. Oh well, lesson learned

p.s it costs 5,000 USD in Korea for a tuck approx

Good info. Thanks! But I disagree with you about tucks being off topic- in fact, next month, a plastic surgeon is coming to our lap band support group! Thanks again for the beginning of my education on the subject! Continued best of luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
