Surgery 7-6-11 ??? About liquids

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post op today and starting to miss some food Need a little more variety! Am I limited to Clear Liquids or are Protein Shakes ok? Milk? Creamy Soups? Getting tired of chicken and beef broth, but enjoying herbal teas. Any suggestions?

Did your Dr. say how long you are to be on them and when they should be clear liquids and then move on to full liquids? My Dr. made it clear that there was a difference. Right now I'm on full liquids so I get creamy Soups, milk, Protein shakes, cream of wheat...etc. If you are on just clear popsicles are counted in that category and Jello. :) Look through your papers and see if you find the difference or when you get to switch. You should have a list that explains when to transition to other foods.

I was also banded on 7/6, and my dr. let me switch to "full liquids" yesterday--including Protein Shakes and any Soups that had been run through a blender.

My TrueResults person said Liquids are anything that you could normally take through a straw, but remember we're not supposed to use straws. I admit I do, but sometimes it's a situation where you can't help it.

That definitely helps. He told me liquids till my post op appt next Thursday and I assumed that since all I got in the hospital are Clear Liquids that that's what he meant. Definitely opens up some options if Protein Drinks and Soups are an option. I am also feeling pretty weak not getting many nutrients from the clear liquids. Thanks for your help!
