Hello Everyone!

I have a question and would really love it if I could get peoples opinions on it. Ok, so I am finally scheduled to get my surgery! Yay! I am really really interested in international work. For instance I really want to go to Europe or Asia and work as a teacher, or possibly as a live in worker for families or something along those lines. So I was wondering if that is alright with having Lap-Band. I mean im not planning on doing any of this till maybe like Late-Summer or Fall of 2012. I was just wondering about that. Thank you all for your input ahead of time.

Most definately fine. Apart from getting fills and stuff... but I'm sure you could find a doctor there to do it!

Should be fine. Lapband originated in Sweden in 1985 and was being used throughout Europe by 1993. It wasn't FDA approved in the US until 2001. They have way more experience with it than we do. You should have no trouble finding a doctor if you need one!

Thank you both for your replies. This makes it easier for me to get it. I mean, I am scared. I havent ever had surgery at all. Just got the pre-op butterflies. I wouldnt want this to ruin my chances to travel the world.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
