Recommended Posts

I have lost quite a bit of weight in the first months after surgery getting to 205 from 287 however i injured my back was put on steroids and cant exercise now im back up to 225 and not happy. I am not able to digest much only seems like unhealthy foods stay down. Anyone else going through this frustration?

Steroids will cause weight gain. If you can only eat unhealthy foods are you too tight? Discuss it with your surgeon.

It is VERY difficult to lose weight while on steroids if not impossible. Discuss your options with your Doc and tell him what's going on.

I have been stuck at 270-280 for a few months now. Coming down from 350, still is upsetting to be stuck. I think I have not lost anymore because I have not paid attention to what I am suppose to be staying away from. A couple of months ago I was able to get down to 250 but gained 20 back and that was due to eating chips and more cruchy stuff. That hurt my band and made it impossible for me to keep anyhting down. I finally went in and had some liquid removed. I have been going back and forth. I cant stand the pressure I feel and the pain I have. Sometimes it feels like I cant even breath. Then a few days go by and I feel a little better. Does this happen to you at all?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
