5 day pouch test? Is it a fad...

Recommended Posts

or does it really work?

Since being banded I've seen it mentioned in different places. I can't understand though how or why it would work so I'm wondering is it for real?

Have any of you tried it?

What are you looking to gain from it? A drop on the scale? If so, I'm sure it works, but you're losing Water weight and nothing more. Be better off closely tracking your calories, IMO.

I have no idea. LOL

I'm just wondering why people do it and what does it really for you. According to the website it says it will make your pouch tighter, but I can't understand how it would.

I have done it once and while I don't think it makes your pouch tighter, what it did for me was help hit the reset button on my brain. The whole idea is that you go back to liquids for two days, mushies for a day and then over the last 2 days gradually re-introduce solids. For those who get regular fills this is probably not necessary because most do the whole liquid, mushies thing after a fill but for me since I've only had 1 fill in 7 months I did find it helpful to remind we how I should be eating at a time when I could feel old bad habits start creaping back into my life.

Just my .02...

It's really geared more toward those who have had bypass or another similar surgery, whose pouches are now their entire stomach. People who that kind of surgery often do very well initially, then stretch their pouches which enables them to eat more and more.

For us bandsters, our food passes through the band in a minute or less, so it's not really about how much our pouch can hold. But it IS a good way to detox if you've been going nuts on sugar or carbs lately, and of course, to get out of the habit of pigging out.

I have been wondering about this too, and I agree; I was thinking of it more like a 'rewind, start from the beginning, and yes, reset my brain to get back on track. Interesting to know though.

i <3 the pouch test.

I use it to get rid of my cravings (sugars carbs bad eating etc) and get back into better eating. The first time I did it I lost 3kg.

I have done it 3 times now over about a year and a half and it always works.

I need to follow plans to be motivated and see an end and 5 days is a perfect time.

I'd say it has value to "reset", that's a good way of putting it. To get you back on the straight and narrow. Nutritionally, its simply a fad diet, you'll lose, but you're in danger of stacking it right back on as you'll lose a lot of Water. Still, if you do get back to basics and keep eating properly you can also keep that weight off.

personally, i wouldnt put myself through it. I know when I've been off track and I know its simply a matter of recommitting, I dont find the need for such a drastic measure.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
