Vacation = Poor Choices

Recommended Posts

I have been banded almost 7 weeks. I have had one fill (2 cc in my 10 cc band). I have felt no restriction since my first week post-op. I am on vacation this week and made poor dinner choices. I was fine every day until dinner time. I did seem to get full quicker on the filling foods (crab cake, fried fish, etc...). My weight loss so far has been mostly me...making smart choices, counting calories and exercising. I have exerciseded here too. Do you think I have done any harm?!? I plan on getting right back into my routine when I get back. I go for my second fill in a week in a half and I cannot wait!!!

I assume you're on normal foods? Then no, no harm done. Have you been walking or anything? You never know, if you've been moving a lot the scale may surprise you when you come home. I went away 7 weeks post op, I ate very poorly ( not completely my fault as our meals were prepared for us and I had no say in it) but I woke up and took a walk on the beach 5 out of the 7 mornings and I came home and weighed myself and had lost 1/2#. Not a ton, but considering my last vacation, I was up like 6 when I came back. I was ecstatic! So you may surprise yourself

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes, I am on regular food. I have been since 10 days post op. I didn't go totally crazy and eat poorly every chance I could, as I have in the past on vacations. Right before I left, I hit the 70 lb lost point, ao I am hoping I did not gain that much. Thanks again :)!

Tracie, one thing about the band is that it's pretty forgiving. If you get home and find you're not where you want to be, focus again on your routine, and get back at it. Any weight you gained during vacation will quickly be shed, and you'll start losing again. Like the old saying goes, "If you fall off the horse, get back in the saddle and start riding again."

Good luck!

Dave

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
