Do you count calories? Do I need a fill?

Recommended Posts

I am struggling finding the best way to lose weight. I am exercising an hour everyday but my weight loss is so slow. I try to keep my calories at 1000 but often hit 1200. I am small boned and 5'2". I have been banded a month. I could use some hints on how to reach my goal. I do get 60 mg of Protein everyday. I hate drinking Water but attempt of get 48 oz of no calorie drinks such as crystal light per day.

I've yet to have a fill. My Doc said to call when I feel I need one. So a little confused on that too. I can eat about 1 cup of food at one time. But I get hungry about 3 hours after I eat. I have restriction because I have to eat slowly and take small bites. I have never had a slime episode or any vomiting. But I have had a stuck episode but not lately. Do I need a fill?

Thanks for your help.

Your meal should last you for 4-5 hours, so if I were you I'd get a tiny fill... also try to drink more liquids :)

You may not be eating enough. Our bodies need calories to work properly. There's a point where you're eating too little and when you're eating too much. You need to figure out (based on calculators or something) where that line is for you. If you eat too little, your metabolism slows and you don't lose weight as quickly. If you're exercising for an hour a day, you're burning more calories, which means you really need to eat MORE than you would have without exercise in order to lose weight.

I'm kind of there, too. I had been eating 1,200 calories a day and that worked for me. Now that I'm exercising, I burn about 600 calories most days. And I have not been eating more, so I haven't been losing weight. I really NEED to consume more, but I don't really WANT to and I'm having trouble trying to convince myself to eat more.

I do count calories and I have 900-1000 calories a day. 300 per meal and MAYBE a cup of skim milk as a snack =). It sounds to me like you're eating enough and taking in the right amount of calories for weight loss....maybe it's the foods you're eating. I do not eat bread, rice, Pasta or potatoes. I also do not eat ANY sugar. Not even artificial. I don't eat fruit either. My nutritionist made a good point when she said 'you don't realize your addiction to something until you have to take it away.'

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
