Had my surgery on 7/5..... Have had the runs all day and yesterday. Has this happened to anyone else? I will be switching to lactose free or rice milk tomorrow. Maybe the Protein Shakes with skim milk are my enemy.

liquids in = liquids out. Once you start back on solids it'll get better.

It's very common. I actually got so worried when it happened to me that I called my Dr about it. The lactose free milk (or soy milk - which I prefer) might help some but don't be surprised if it sticks around until you start to eat solids. Just make sure you are drinking enough to stay hydrated and you'll be fine.

i was banded 7/5 also - i have not had a BM or runs at all - just urine - i've barely been able to eat (meaning drink) the solid liquids - i have absolutely no appetite at all - it is all i can do to force the Water down - i just don't want it. Been walking in the house, doing the liquid vicodin 2x per day, and using gas x strips about 6x per day. The gas in my torso is just horrible (never went to my shoulders as others say on here - but it could still happen). My gas pain is concentrtaed right where i believe my stomach would be located - at this point i'm hoping it's actually gas and not some problem with the lap band - i can feel the air moving/adjusting in my torso though so i'm thinking it's just gas). I would have thought i'd have a loose BM o the runs by now since i have sipped some tomatoe Soup and have eaten 2 or 3 cups of sugar free pudding - but nothing, nada zip. Hope that's not all that unusual but welcome the feedback from my fellow bandsters!

I did not have a BM for about 4 days after surgery and then it was just very little. Not unusual at all to be a bit constipated, especially if taking vicodin as Constipation is a known side effect.

Congrats on your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery.

It's NORMAL! A couple days after my surgery I got them also, and it didn't stop until I started putting in a couple days of creamy foods and got away from the week of clear fluids. I was asking the same question...so yes, it's normal. I heard that sometimes it can be caused by the dye they use during surgery? No matter what it's from, it sucks and it lasted a good 5 or so days for me.

I have had problems with this since day one. It's a little better now, but I would say that 50% of the time it's been the norm for me; but I'm still doing mostly liquids mixed in with mushies for dinner and such... could be why. I don't feel bad, no cramps or anything, just a little more speedy in that department.

Just so you know if you want to try Lactose Free ! Muscle Milk Light in the powder form is Lactose Free. Invest in any flavor but chocolate. It's not good at all. There chocolate milk is very good though.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
