7 days Post-op. Soreness and swelling at port site

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 days post-op and feeling much better than a week ago. On one side of my stomach, I'm guess where the port is, it kind of raised and when I move around it's sore. Is this normal? On the other side of my stomach I'm not experiencing this at all.

The only time I feel my port site is when I lay down at night on that side, otherwise it's been fine. I'm 10 days out. I know I've read about a lot of people having actual pain at their port site so it's probably normal.B)

I'm a week out too. Definitely normal. The bump will go away as the incision heals. Yes thats where the port is and it will be sore for awhile :-) I have to ask, are either one of you hungry???? It is just terrible. I feel like I can eat anything and I TOTALLy want to because I'm so hungry. I'm not trying to jump off the wagon, I just HATE this stage of the game. whew, glad I got that off my chest.

One thing I learned on this board is that most of the surgeons SEW the lap band to your stomach and the port to a part of your mucles. Called my doctor and sure enough he does that, too. So... the soreness in that port area would be normal. Plus, the incission near the port is bigger than the others and thus more soreness. Hang in there and stay true to your diet of liquids or what ever stage you are at right now. Seems the liquid/thick liquids/mushies are all part of the healing process. Gotta be well healed on the inside before we can get our first fills.

For me the port area was the last thing to stop hurting, especially when I bended over, or lay on that side. I think it took a week and a half.

I am 5 weeks post op and finally feeling that area again. It was numb and tingling and burning since surgery. I was told it's because it is where they have to retract the abdominal wall to attach the port. As the nerves heal, the feeling comes back and the burning stops. I can only tell I had surgery at this point when I twist in a odd way. It all gets better. I have lost quite a bit without being hungry. Feeling good!biggrin.gif

I was just banded 2 days ago and cannot tell if it is hunger pains or just pain from the procedure and gas. Not really sure how to address the above but my incision site hurts along with my left shoulder (badly). Has anyone been told to put an anitbiotic on the incision site?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
